Nurse Practitioner

Department of Public Health

Tewksbury Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner who is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within a collaborative and mission-driven healthcare environment. In this role, you will practice in an expanded capacity in accordance with Massachusetts regulations, working closely with a hospital staff physician to ensure safe, effective, and comprehensive treatment. You will manage a defined patient population, addressing a wide range of chronic, acute, and emergent medical needs while contributing to a multidisciplinary care model that values clinical excellence, teamwork, and continuity of care. This position offers the opportunity to apply advanced clinical judgment, maintain autonomy in patient management, and play an essential role in shaping care outcomes within a state-operated hospital setting.

You will partner with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, respond to hospital-wide medical needs, and support both patient and employee health services, including emergency stabilization. The role also includes participation in clinical education, policy adherence, and ongoing competency development, ensuring alignment with evolving healthcare standards. This is an ideal opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner who values a structured yet impactful practice setting, with strong clinical support, regulatory alignment, and the ability to make a meaningful difference across both medical and psychiatric care populations.

Please Note: This position is a 40-hour position on the day Shift from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Days off are Saturday and Sunday

  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to inform clinical decision-making and treatment planning.
  • Prescribe medications, including Schedule II-VI controlled substances, in compliance with Massachusetts regulations and hospital policies.
  • Perform and/or coordinate clinical procedures as authorized, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
  • Collaborate regularly with the assigned or covering physician to review patient status and ensure appropriate clinical oversight.
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing, medical staff, and allied health professionals, to support comprehensive treatment.
  • Refer patients to specialists or higher levels of care as clinically indicated.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation and adhere to all standards for medical management, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
  • Respond to hospital-wide medical needs, including emergencies involving patients, staff, and visitors, and provide support to employee health services when required.
Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, APRN scope of practice, and Massachusetts regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, diagnose, and manage patient care across chronic, acute, and emergent conditions.
  • Ability to analyze clinical data, make sound medical decisions, and implement appropriate treatment plans.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, quality improvement, and adherence to all applicable state and federal regulations (including HIPAA).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts public health systems and state-operated healthcare environments.
  • Experience working with complex medical and/or psychiatric patient populations.
  • Current CPR and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience responding to medical emergencies and providing acute stabilization.
  • Demonstrated involvement in quality improvement initiatives or peer review processes.
  • Experience participating in interdisciplinary care teams, committees, or clinical governance activities.
  • Background in employee health or occupational health services.
  • Experience precepting or mentoring nursing or nurse practitioner students.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, including experience with electronic health records.
