Public Health Nurse

City of Columbia, Missouri Career Opportunities The purpose of this job is to provide public health nursing services to individuals, families, and communities. Delivers services directed toward prevention, assessment, risk reduction, and health status improvement for individuals, and families. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Provides direct clinical services, including case management, care coordination, and medication management. Administers immunizations and health screenings; educates patients regarding required/recommended vaccinations, injuries, and diseases. Conducts communicable disease surveillance and case investigations, communicates with clients and providers, and performs contact tracing. Delivers communicable disease prevention services and resources via community clinics and home visits. Manages clinic inventory. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory authority. Work may require providing guidance and training to others. Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or associate degree in Nursing with additional experience. 1 to 3 years’ experience in nursing Licenses or Certifications Valid Missouri Nursing License for a registered professional nurse required. CPR and Basic Life Support ( BLS ) certification. Valid driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position Knowledge of: Nursing education, including family planning and cancer prevention, communicable disease prevention, communicable diseases, and treatment options. Principles, practices, and techniques of professional public health nursing. General office practices and administrative procedures, records management, and administration techniques and procedures. Relevant laws and regulations. Federal and State guidelines for vaccinations and communicable diseases. Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience. Organizing tasks and managing cases. Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to: Plan, implement, and evaluate programs, strategies, and policy initiatives. Ability to assess client’s health and medication compliance, side effect management, baseline levels per established protocols. Create and present reports. Provide effective customer service. Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Compile, organize, interpret, and communicate data and results concisely. Provide guidance and training to less experienced employees. Use electronic applications appropriate to public health nursing duties. Process and handle confidential information with discretion. Regularly use a computer, software, phone and related office equipment. Hours/Days Primarily 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, with some early morning, evening, and weekend hours, as needed. Starting Salary Starting Salary $28.65-$35.25 hourly, $59,592-$73,320 annually. Commensurate with training, education, and experience.
