The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct diagnostic computed tomography (CT) scans. The individual will produce high-quality CT images and exercise professional judgment throughout the procedures. The work schedule includes day and evening shifts, along with a weekend rotation approximately every five weeks.

In addition to imaging duties, the role involves providing patient care and initiating life support measures when necessary. Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, department staff, and other healthcare professionals is essential.

The CT Technologist must possess the expertise to operate CT equipment proficiently, ensuring the production of quality scans while also being capable of performing related procedures and protocols. The ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, as well as to train new staff, is crucial. Furthermore, the technologist should be adept at gathering information from patients or their guardians to enhance personalized treatment and care.

Throughout their work, the CT Technologist will strive to understand the physical and emotional needs of patients across all age groups.

Responsibilities may expand based on the facility's needs, which could include on-call duties during nights, weekends, and holidays. Additional tasks may involve performing diagnostic radiology procedures, basic radiology tasks, mobile imaging, electrocardiograms (EKG), cardiac monitor placements, and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.

• Completion of formal training in Radiologic Technology from an American Medical Association (AMA) accredited institution or a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT) approved program is mandatory.
• Experience or training in Computerized Tomography (CT) is preferred.
• Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required upon hiring.
• CT certification within two years is preferred to meet the standards set by the Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) and the American College of Radiology (ACR).
• If employed in North Dakota, licensure from the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is necessary for those performing medical imaging or radiation therapy.
• For positions in Aberdeen, South Dakota, CT certification must be obtained within 24 months of employment.
• In Iowa, all technologists must hold a permit to practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and I.V. certification must be completed within six weeks of starting, with re-certification as required.
