Special Education Teacher

The School District of Bayfield seeks only individuals of the highest caliber whose creativity, enthusiasm, and energy are contagious to work with students served by IEPs. Applicants must be energetic, collaborative, patient, and highly competent. Candidates must be able to demonstrate initiative and collaborate with teachers, related services providers, and administration. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Education, the candidate is responsible for the development and delivery of student services based on individual needs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide specially designed instruction, concentration in learning disabilities and/or emotional behavioral disabilities, functional academic skills, and management of all aspects of student programing in KG-5th grade
  • Work in close collaboration with members of the school community (general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, families, caregivers, community members, etc.)
  • Provide guidance to paraprofessionals focusing on assisting students in academic areas such as reading, writing, and/or math. This includes implementing curriculum, adapting instructional materials/strategies, and collecting data on academic progress
  • Implementation of a variety of social, emotional, and behavior supports as needed and collect data regarding student progress in this area
  • Supporting students with functional needs (self-care, mobility, etc.) as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel Requirements:

Travel between schools or to student homes may be required for certain positions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Special Education Legal and Contextual Knowledge
  • Ability to lead and provide supports in line with equitable systems of supports
  • Demonstrated success and skills in working with other service providers, county agencies, and families
  • Effective communication skills in working with students, coworkers, administration, and families
  • Time management, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Trauma Sensitive Practices preferred
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and planning

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Works in standard office and school building environments
  • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to participate in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training in order to attain certification

Qualifications Profile:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • Prior experience working within special education preferred
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Special Education Teacher License
  • If a candidate does not currently hold said licensure, the application must be submitted within 30 days of employment

Job Type: Full-Time School Year Benefits: Health Insurance Dental Insurance Retirement fund through the Wisconsin Retirement System Long Term Disability Sick Leave Personal Days Salary Range: Based on DPI licensure and district hiring schedule $43,085 - $87,186
