Position Summary Functions as a Lead of the healthcare team, coordinates departmental operations that ensure quality patient care in a safe, healing environment that is patient and family centered. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, provides expert clinical resources, supports employees, and serves as a staff role model for professional nursing practice. May recommend efficient resource allocation to management. Demonstrates performance consistent with the strategic plan and the HPMC nursing mission and values. Responsibilities Leadership: Directs, reviews, assigns, and organizes work of at least three employees, with at least one Registered Nurse. Applies HPMC Nursing mission, vision, and values in daily practice; understands needs and sets priorities; maintains efficient patient care delivery; delegates tasks appropriately; serves as a role model in professional nursing practice; mentors new staff; ensures regulatory compliance; collaborates across departments; participates in patient flow activities; facilitates interdisciplinary communication. Nursing Process: Serves as resource for clinical concerns and regulations; provides experience for providers and staff; maintains flexible work schedule; assigns, orients, precepts and coaches staff. Documentation: Conducts audits; ensures thorough assessments; participates in departmental quality efforts; maintains knowledge of patient conditions; collaborates with leaders; motivates staff in quality improvement; supports employee performance evaluations. Workplace Safety: Adjusts staffing to assure quality patient care, safety, efficiency, and productivity; models workplace safety principles. Patient Care Experience: Provides role model patient care exceeding expectations; ensures timely management; coordinates transitions across continuum; participates in leadership rounds and documents rounding activities. Team Commitment: Supports collaborative environment; identifies and supports staff professional development; motivates staff toward quality outcomes; facilitates daily/shift huddles; addresses conflicts constructively. Fiscal Responsibility: Participates in resource allocation, staffing, scheduling, and equipment/supplies management; collaborates with leadership on staffing and workflow. Professional Development: Attends Charge Nurse educational programs; pursues professional growth. Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduate of a Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved nursing program equivalent to BRN requirements. Preferred Education: BSN preferred. Experience: Ability to communicate effectively; must work in a union environment; two years RN experience in acute care, including charge or preceptor responsibilities. Licensure & Certifications: Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) License; Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification; S.T.A.B.L.E. Baby Assessment within six months of employment; Los Angeles County Fire Card within 30 days; Assault Response Competency within 30 days. Job Details Status: Full Time Shift: Nights Hours: 12hrs (6:45pm - 7:15am) Weekly/Bi-Weekly Hours: 36hrs/72hrs
