The VCS is a federal agency under the Department of Veterans Affairs and operates cafés, retail stores, coffee shops, and vending machines across the country.
Duties:

The General Manager oversees all aspects of canteen operations in Topeka, KS , including retail, food service, vending, sales, merchandising, and accountability. This role entails comprehensive personnel management, administrative oversight, and process evaluations related to canteen functions, such as planograms (POGs), retail point-of-sale (RPOS) systems, inventory control, stock scheduling, food safety, sanitation, and promotional initiatives. Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for achieving financial targets and executing program objectives as directed by the Veterans Canteen Service Central Office (VCSCO) and/or the Regional Director.

Skills & Requirements
Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of direct food/retail management experience
• Prior experience with inventory management, supply cost and shrinkage controls, and P&L management experience.
• Proven track record of building sales, increasing profits, staff development
• Ability to assess business needs and problem solve
• Hands-on leadership with a strong focus on service and hospitality
• Proficient computer skills using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Experience with POS Systems
• ServSafe certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire date
• Associate Degree preferred, but not required, in Business, Hospitality or Management.
• A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
