Department Purpose Oversee the execution of the Duke Health Affiliations & Networks Strategic plan, including growth strategies for expanding Duke Health’s presence in local, regional, and national markets. Lead efforts to establish and operationalize affiliated programs that foster opportunities for clinical collaboration in patient care, research, and education, including specialty/subspecialty affiliations and the Duke LifePoint joint venture. Division Responsibilities Lead the division of acute care affiliations and support services within DHAN. Provide specialty/subspecialty programmatic advisory services to affiliated healthcare organizations, expand care locally, protect the Duke Brand, facilitate care coordination, and generate funds to support DUHS academic and clinical missions. Assist the DHAN Vice President with the business relationship and operations of the Duke LifePoint joint venture. Affiliation Development Collaborate with Duke Health specialty/service line and business leaders to inform and execute strategic direction by establishing programmatic specialty affiliations and clinical joint venture relationships with like‑minded partners in local, regional, and national markets. Network Operations Set strategic direction and oversee operations within acute‑care based affiliations and centralized business operations divisions of DHAN. Acute‑Care Specialty/Subspecialty Affiliations Specialty/subspecialty affiliations networks and outreach Established Specialty/Subspecialty Networks in cancer, heart, telestroke, Tele-ID Development and oversight of emerging/new specialty/subspecialty affiliations Provider Relations for Duke providers at DHAN affiliated sites Duke LifePoint Business Operations Oversee the Duke LifePoint Healthcare joint venture to ensure alignment with Duke Health’s mission, quality and patient safety goals, and protection of the Duke brand. Serve as Duke Representative to one of the 13 Duke LifePoint Boards of Trustees as assigned. Job Responsibilities Planning With the Asst VP for the Cancer Network and Sr. Directors for Heart and Subspecialties, develop, monitor and oversee execution of Network strategy as outlined in the Duke Health and CSU specific strategic plans. Identify opportunities to expand affiliations throughout the local, regional, and national markets. Support the mission of Duke Health by identifying opportunities to provide education and research activities in affiliated sites throughout the United States. Ensure alignment with Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP) leadership to support the deployment, oversight, and performance of Duke physicians and APPs at DHAN affiliated sites. Oversee DHAN’s centralized Business Operations shared services team, ensuring efficient delivery of finance, HR coordination, fleet, IT, and back‑office support, standardizing workflows and strengthening operational performance across the network. Represent Duke Health's interests in the Duke LifePoint joint venture to achieve strategic initiatives. Operations Management Accountable for daily operations of the Division of Acute Care Affiliations and Centralized Business Operations, including services to affiliate sites consistent with contractual agreements. Oversee marketing and review process for all affiliate sites with contractual approval for Use of Duke Brand, working closely with Duke Health Marketing & Communications. Oversee DHAN Centralized Business Operations responsible for billing and account receivable processes for all DHAN operational and licensing fees. Address personnel and HR‑related issues in liaison with assigned HR Business Partner. Maintain relationships with administrators, medical staff leadership, and trustees in affiliate organizations. Directly supervise leaders of Specialty/Subspecialty Affiliations Networks/teams, Provider Relations, and Centralized Business Operations, including dept‑specific personnel and HR functions. Provide dotted line oversight of Marketing and Communications processes related to licensing of the Duke Name to affiliates. Ensure comprehensive education agenda in all DHAN specialty/subspecialty affiliated programs and appropriate clinical research in accordance with contractual obligations. Generate measurable educational, research, and quality outcomes to support Duke Health’s academic mission and reputation. Monitor performance of network activities within the division, develop and issue timely reports to Duke Health senior leaders and affiliated sites as needed. Maintain open communication with leaders of Duke University School of Medicine, Duke Health Acute Care and Ambulatory facilities, DHIP, Health System Finance Dept, DUH Service Lines, Managed Care Contracting, Strategy & Planning, Marketing & Communications, Development Office, Risk Management, Legal Services, Continuing Medical and Graduate Medical Education, Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO), and others as appropriate. Serve as role model and resource for professional colleagues, participate in leadership activities such as committees, professional organizations, publishing, teaching and research. Required Qualifications At This Level Education Master’s degree in a related field is required; a healthcare concentration is strongly preferred. Experience Minimum five years’ experience in hospital operations, including at least three years at an administrative leadership level. Essential Competencies Lead effectively in a matrixed organization with high collaboration, sound judgment, and significant operational experience. Strong leadership, management, analytical, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of physician practice management, clinical operations, research practice, and healthcare payment systems, with sound financial management. Motivation and initiative for professional growth. Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations. Ability to assess situations and implement improvement or corrective actions. Skill in influencing opinions, attitudes, and decisions across diverse stakeholders. Data‑driven decision making. Strong oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences. Ability to travel in support of new and existing affiliated sites (local, regional, and national travel required).
