Must be currently employed as a sworn Police Officer in "good standing" or have successfully completed an FTO program in "good standing" or if recently separated from service (e.g. laid-off or retired) must have been in "good standing" at time of separation. ***Good standing is not separation/resignation in lieu of termination.*** Certified Police Officers starting pay 0-1 yrs exp.* - $57,725 2-4 yrs exp.* - $74,961 5+ yrs exp.* - $83,578 (* Years of qualifying work experience as a Certified Police Officer as determined by the City of Southfield, as of the eligibility list certification date)

The selection process will include the completion of a City of Southfield application, a review of the applicant's qualifications, driving record and criminal history check, and an oral board interview. Selected candidates will be subject to an extensive level 4 background investigation, and must successfully pass a psychological evaluation and physical exam prior to employment. Each step of the process must be passed before the applicant will be moved to the next step.
