Job Description The University of Washington Medical Center – Northwest – Rehabilitation Therapies Department Work Schedule Part‑Time / 24 Hours Per Week Day Shift Position Highlights The Speech Therapist provides evaluation and treatment of patients experiencing communication disorders of all types, including select swallowing disorders. Includes adults, geriatrics, adolescents, both inpatient and outpatient. Responsibilities Review physician’s referral and patient’s medical record, screen/evaluate communication disorders. Develop a treatment plan and evaluate/monitor patient progress, adjusting as needed. Provide individual or group therapy for: neurogenic communication disorders (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, cognitive/communication deficits); maxillofacial, laryngeal, and other head and neck disorders; functional speech, language, voice and fluency disorders; swallowing disorders (pseudobulbar, bulbar, mechanical, functional dysphagia). Document treatment and provide written reports for each patient. Provide counseling, education, and guidance to patients, families, and caregivers. Collaborate with patients, medical practitioners, and others to plan and assess the treatment program. Consult and promote the program to educational, medical, social, dental and other professional groups. Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology/Audiology or Communicative Disorders, or equivalent approved by the American Speech/Language & Hearing Association. Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech/Language & Hearing Association. Current Washington State license to practice as a Speech Pathologist. One year of experience as a speech pathologist or equivalent is preferred.
