JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Performs company field operations, including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities. Handles customer requests and represents the company in the community.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Initiate gas service and perform leak investigations and repairs
• Read gas meters
• Conduct load surveys
• Complete work orders in system for documentation
• Serve as first responder in emergency situations
• Conduct cathodic protection system monitoring activities
• Conduct odorization activities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

• A high school education or GED

Minimum experience required of the position

• 1–2 years of gas distribution experience or equivalent experience in plumbing/pipe fitting

Physical Requirements

• Able to exert up to 50 lb. of force occasionally and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
• Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and ladders, and crawl in confined spaces, such as attics or crawl spaces.
• Able to exert routine physical effort on a regular basis.
• Able to use a variety of hand and/or power tools.
• Able to operate a motor vehicle and enter and exit vehicle unassisted.

• Required to participate in Delta Utilities’ Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
• Able to work with routine exposure to all weather conditions.
• Able to work regular hours with occasional overtime; may be required to work rotating shifts.
• Able to certify and wear personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs on a daily basis.
• Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
• Able to respond to callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
• Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT safety sensitive positions.
• May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts.

Notice: As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
