Tiffin Aire

Based at the Seneca County Airport, Tiffin Aire Inc. was founded in 1968 by Dwight and Jeanne Gnepper. It began with only three employees, two single-engine aircraft, two hangars, and an office. By 1996 Tiffin Aire offered aircraft charter, flight instruction and rental, aircraft sales, aircraft maintenance, parts and oil sales, and propeller/governor sales and service. De-ice boot sales/installation and the Tiffin Aire Tug were added to the company product line in later years. Tiffin Aire is now owned by Hartzell Propeller, LLC out of Piqua, Ohio.

Key Responsibilities

Tiffin Aire is looking for a Propeller Technician who will be responsible for conducting inspections, performing preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, and overhaul, and troubleshooting and diagnostics of propeller components. Following all compliance, quality and safety requirements. 

Key Deliverables of the Role

1) Conduct routine inspections on propellers for wear, cracks, corrosion, and damage. 

2) Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing according to manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.

3) Disassemble, clean, and inspect propeller assemblies for defects. 

4) Balance propellers to meet aerodynamic performance standards

5) Replace or repair blades, hubs, spinners, and pitch control mechanisms. 

6) Perform other duties as assigned by the department

Standard Daily Tasks:

-Inspect propellers for wear, cracks, corrosion and damage

-Perform scheduled propeller maintenance 

-Perform preventative maintenance

-Disassemble, clean, and inspect propeller assemblies

-Perform propeller overhaul 

-Repair propeller blades, hubs, spinners, and pitch control mechanisms

-Use and comply with approved manufacturer technical data and FAA guidance

-Maintain records of accomplished work

-Perform other duties as assigned

Employee Requirements:

-High school diploma or equivalent

-Technical degree/training (highly desired)

-Familiarity with aviation maintenance (highly desired)

-Valid driver’s license

-Ability to read, understand, and apply technical guidance

-Ability to work independently as a self-motivated individual

-Ability to work as part of a skilled team

-Ability to reliably work the required 8:00-4:30 schedule

-Ability to effectively use provided tools

-Ability to follow all Tiffin Aire safety guidelines

-Ability to learn and retain new skills

-Highly organized with a strong attention to detail

-Ability to pass drug screenings

-Ability to earn a Repairman’s License

Physical Requirements:

-Ability to lift 70lbs

-Routine walking, bending, standing, squatting or sitting

-Routine repetitive motion with arms and hands

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma required.

Required Technical Competencies

1) Mechanical Aptitude – demonstrated examples (on the job or outside of work) showing competency to work with hands. Might include items such as body work skills, crate repair, general wrenching ability, construction work, etc.

2) Manual Dexterity – Ability to perform a job that requires detailed handwork. 

3) Experience with Process Standards – Demonstrated ability to read, understand and execute to written instruction.

4) Computer Skills – experience with entering and retrieving data from a computer.
