Maintainer (37.5 Hour) (Office/On-site)

Position Overview The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) – Southbury Training School – offers a full‑time Maintainer position located in Southbury, CT. PCN 16698. This is a 37.5‑hour per week position (Monday‑Friday, 7:15 am–3:15 pm, with Saturdays and Sundays as regular days off). Job Responsibilities Perform basic tasks of an unskilled nature in one or more of the following areas: Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial) Grounds care Food services Operation of trucks with a capacity of less than five (5) tons Parking garage operations Required Skills and Abilities Interpersonal skills Oral and written communication skills Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to learn policies and procedures Ability to operate, care for, and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work Ability to keep records Minimum Qualifications Any experience and training that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with commercial snow removal equipment Experience working in a commercial warehouse Experience using commercial lawn equipment Experience using commercial‑grade cleaning materials and practices Experience moving large furniture items and commercial kitchen equipment from one location to another, including up and down stairways Experience with custodial work in large settings such as health care or schools Experience with trades such as electrical, carpentry, and painting Experience working with Microsoft Office 365 Special Requirements Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications. Physical Requirements Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and maintain the fitness required to perform the duties. A physical examination may be required. Working Conditions Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and be exposed to extreme weather conditions. They may be at risk of injury from equipment and from assaultive or abusive patients or clients. Incumbents may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines and to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
