Survey Instrument OperatorOur client is currently seeking applicants interested in a Survey Instrument Operator position at their Baltimore office. The Survey Instrument Operator will assist the Crew Chief with the activities and mentorship of new team members. Work may be part of a team or solo. Work will involve various tasks: boundary, right-of-way, easement, topographic, construction, subsurface utility locations, as-built, global positioning system (GPS), and geographic information system (GIS) mapping support work. This position will be exposed to various climatic and terrain conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of an office manager who assigns and inspects work to ensure that it is conducted in accordance with client requirements and with accepted surveying standards.Responsibilities and DutiesAssist with training and mentoring the teamClient and public relationsMathematical computationsAssist with team safety, efficiency and costOperates Trimble Robotic Total StationOperate Trimble Data CollectorsOperates GPS survey equipmentPerform Differential LevelsOperate Lidar ScannerOperate a magnetic detector and use hand tools.Carries surveying equipment, tools, and other supplies to and from the survey vehicle and survey site.Inspects and maintains surveying instruments to keep them in good condition and working order.Perform inventory of supplies in work vehicle.Keep detailed field notes, sketches, records, and reports.Clears line of sight through vegetation using machetes, hand saws, and other cutting tools.Locate and document property corners and survey control points.Assists with the setup of work zone signs and other work zone controls.Operates a survey vehicleRecords survey data in field book and data collector, checks survey notes for accuracy.QualificationsHigh School / GED1+ years experience with Land Surveying procedures and an ability to operate surveying instrumentsA valid drivers licenseAbility to work outdoorsMust be available for occasional overnight travel as needed for out-of-town work. This could include a full 5-day work week or less.An ability to adhere to safety procedures and requirements.The ability to work with and mentor a teamAble to work solo with robotic total station and/or GPS equipmentMust be able to lift and carry survey equipment over rough & steep terrainsAbility to remain standing or walking during the workdayWillingness to work occasional flexible hours and overtimeAbility to obtain security and safety certificationsMust be able to pass drug screening and background checksPositive attitude and professionalismMDOT-SHA experience a plusCST certification a plusConfined Space Training a plusAbout Our ClientThis is your opportunity to join our client’s motivated team and play a part in the growth of our Land Survey team.
