Occupational Therapist Acute Care

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist (OT) in an acute care hospital setting provides specialized therapeutic interventions to patients recovering from illness or injury. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team to promote functional independence and optimal recovery. The OT will float between units, working in a fast-paced environment with a patient-to-therapist ratio of approximately 8-9 to 1. Acute care experience and a Washington state OT license are required. Responsibilities:

• Conduct patient assessments to evaluate physical and cognitive function.
• Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans.
• Provide therapy interventions aimed at improving patient independence in daily activities.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Document patient progress and treatment plans accurately using Epic charting system.
• Float between different hospital units as needed to meet patient care demands.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to discharge planning.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Washington state Occupational Therapist license.
• Minimum of 1 year acute care occupational therapy experience.
• Strong clinical assessment and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records, specifically Epic.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage a patient caseload with an 8-9 to 1 ratio.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with inpatient rehabilitation (IPR) settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment.
• Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.

Special Considerations:

• Position floats between various hospital units.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Rotating weekend shifts approximately every 3-4 weeks.
• Block schedules are not required.
• 48-hour workweeks are not approved.

Scheduling:

• Rotating weekend schedule with shifts assigned based on hospital needs.
• Standard acute care hospital shift patterns apply.
