Assistant Athletic Trainer

Job DescriptionLindsey Wilson College, a private college located in Columbia KY, is seeking applicants for multiple Assistant Athletic Trainer positions within the Lindsey Wilson College Sports Medicine Department. These positions are full time over 11-months/year. The start date will be determined by the number of applicants and relocation.\nLindsey Wilson College is a member of the Mid-South Conference and the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and sponsors 27 varsity/club sports programs consisting of 36 teams and 800+ student-athletes.\n Qualifications:\n Education: Bachelor’s or master’s in athletic training from a CAATE-accredited college or university.\n Certification/Licenses: Must be Board of Certification (BOCATC) certified; Must be licensed or eligible for licensure through the Kentucky Medical Board of Licensure; Must be certified in ALS/BLS from the American Heart Association/American Red Cross.\n Additional Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license and have a current NPI Number\n Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\n \n Applied Knowledge: Assistant athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems and conditions, including but not limited to: Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal, General Medical, Psychological, etc. Assessment and evaluation skills need to be proficient, with areas of growth\n \n to occur.Decis\n \n ion Making Skills: Assistant athletic trainers need to have the ability to think critically regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions, as per standing orders and state licensure guidelines.Atten\n tion to Detail: Assistant athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed in their injury documentation and tracking, along with their assessment and evaluation of athletic-related injuries and illnesses.Inter\n personal Skills: Assistant athletic trainers must have the ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to student-athletes, medical professionals, staff and coaches.Organ\n ization: Assistant athletic trainers must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little to no supervision.Auton\n omy: Assistant athletic trainers need to be able to make independent decisions regarding assessments, treatments, rehabilitation and return to play. Assistant athletic trainers need to be able to work independently, with the cumulative support of the Sports Medicine department.\n \n Specific Duties and Responsibilities:\n \n Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.\n Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.\n Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and program for each patient.\n Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.\n Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student-athletes with restrictions and/or limitation based upon clinician evaluation and assessments.\n Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding injury status of student-athletes.\n Responsible for administrative duties including electronic documentation for all patient encounters, filing and management of insurance claims and follow-ups, management and coordination of doctors/surgery appointments.\n \n Description of Athletics Program/Assignments: Lindsey Wilson College is a member of the Mid-South Conference and the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and sponsors 27 varsity/club sports programs consisting of 36 teams and 800+ student-athletes. Sporting assignments will be decided upon successful hiring and personal preferences. Sporting assignments could include: Football (2), Men’s and Women’s Soccer, XC and Track/Field, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Cheerleading/Dance, Men’s and Women’s Swim, Softball, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Bowling.\n Travel Responsibilities: Some travel may be required, based upon game coverage and athletic training room needs. Overnight travel may occur with conference games, and post-season/nationals travel as well. Physical\n Requirements: Lifting and carrying heavy objects. Medium strength is required to position student-athletes for examination. May assist student-athletes as needed, helping them on and off the exam table, or assisting athletes off the field for further evaluation. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.\n Supervisory Responsibilities: Assistant athletic trainers will help supervise MSAT students and athletic training observation students, both within the athletic training room and at the sport practice/game sites.\n Additional Factors for Employment: Once selected, candidates will have to successfully complete a background check.
