Tool And Die InternOur plants are the groundwork for GM and a hotbed of innovation. Interns to do hands-on work that could add directly to the bottom line of our culture and our company. We need Tool and Die interns to assist skilled trade personnel in the operation and maintenance of specialist equipment. These tasks would teach you root causing analysis and mechanical problem solving as well as leadership skills to provide technical support. This is a hands-on position in which you may work with periodic repairs and to provide technical support and direction to support personnel/skilled trades.Responsibilities:Interact with a medium to large group of skilled trade employeesAnalyze product, process and technology to figure out the best methods of manufactureSupport preventative maintenance on new and existing toolingImplement best practices, lessons learned and support manufacturing innovationsTroubleshoot special maintenance and equipment problemsAssists in obtaining resources to effectively maintain and perform operationsStays ahead of current product, procedure and technical developments and trends in areas of manufacturing expertise (Stamping)Support/Lead project activity as requiredAssist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes.Required Qualifications:Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Machine Technology, or related tool and die programMust be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029Able to work full - time, 40 hours per weekMust be willing to work in a plant environmentPreferred Qualifications:Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extracurricular activities or service organizationsEffectively connect with cross shiftsSupporting production lineInterfacing with hourly workforceAble to work independently and with a teamOutstanding interpersonal and relationship skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as neededOral and written communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audienceEmerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environmentHigh level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/ self-directedEvidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trustDeliver new and creative solutions to sophisticated problemsSpecific physical requirements of the position include the ability to:Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals. Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes.Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work.Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment.GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
