Based in Los Angeles, dot.cards is a revenue-backed, fast-growing company entering its next phase of growth. THE ROLE We are hiring a Director of Finance to build and own the financial operating system for dot.cards. This is our first in-house finance leadership role and an opportunity to shape how the company plans, measures performance, manages cash, and makes decisions as we scale. Reporting directly to the founders, you will be a hands‑on individual contributor who oversees our bookkeeper and external finance partners while owning accounting, forecasting, cash management, inventory economics, and management reporting. You will support a business that spans high-volume direct-to-consumer ecommerce, B2B hardware and custom orders, and recurring B2C and B2B software revenue. The right person can move comfortably between details and decisions: reviewing the close, building a forecast, evaluating product and channel margins, planning inventory cash needs, and helping leadership decide where to invest. As the company grows, you will have the opportunity to build and lead the finance team. WHAT YOU WILL OWN Accounting & Financial Operations Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, producing accurate financial statements and a reliable management reporting package on a predictable timeline. Lead and manage the bookkeeper by setting the close calendar, assigning responsibilities, resolving exceptions, and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and material transactions. Maintain a scalable chart of accounts and clear accounting policies across revenue, inventory, COGS, payroll, commissions, operating expenses, and the balance sheet. Ensure financial results are properly organized by department, channel, product, and business line so leadership can understand what is driving performance. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, sales commissions, and vendor payment processes, with clear controls and approval workflows. Manage external relationships across tax, payroll, banking, insurance, and accounting; keep the company prepared for audits, lender reviews, fundraising, and financial diligence. Planning, Cash & Performance Management Build and own the annual operating budget, rolling 12-month forecast, and headcount plan in partnership with the founders and department leaders. Maintain a rolling 13-week cash forecast and manage working-capital planning across payroll, inventory purchases, vendor payments, marketing spend, and other major commitments. Lead monthly P&L and operating reviews, explain the drivers behind performance, identify risks and opportunities, and translate the numbers into clear actions. Own budget-versus-actual and forecast-versus-actual reporting, creating accountability for department spending and company-wide financial targets. Build base, upside, and downside scenarios to support decisions involving hiring, pricing, promotions, new products, channel expansion, and strategic investments. Develop dashboards and KPIs that give leadership clear visibility into revenue, margin, cash, inventory, payroll, operating expenses, and business-unit performance. Revenue, Margin, Inventory & SaaS Finance Build clear financial reporting across high-volume DTC ecommerce, B2B and custom hardware orders, and recurring B2C and B2B subscription revenue. Measure product, customer, and channel profitability, including discounts, returns, chargebacks, platform fees, commissions, shipping subsidies, and other direct costs. Own inventory and COGS reporting, including inventory valuation, landed cost, supplier deposits, freight and duties, inventory in transit, write-offs, and product-level gross margin. Partner with operations and supply chain on inventory purchasing, reorder decisions, vendor payment timing, and the amount of cash tied up in inventory. Maintain accurate MRR and ARR reporting across billing and payment systems, including new business, renewals, expansion, contraction, churn, reactivation, collections, and plan mix. Support pricing, payment terms, commission structures, and profitability analysis for B2B, enterprise, custom, and other nonstandard deals. Business Partnership, Systems & Strategic Projects Partner with leaders across operations, sales, marketing, product, engineering, and support to establish budgets, evaluate performance, and improve financial accountability. Evaluate customer acquisition, promotion, affiliate, creator, marketplace, and other channel economics using contribution margin and cash impact, not revenue alone. Own the finance systems roadmap and improve the flow of reliable financial data across QuickBooks, Shopify, payment and subscription platforms, Salesforce, inventory systems, BigQuery, and reporting tools. Reduce manual work and reporting inconsistencies by defining data ownership, reconciliation processes, and the source of truth for key financial metrics. Prepare monthly CEO reporting and support board, investor, lender, and strategic-finance materials, including revenue, ARR, margin, cash, inventory, and operating-expense bridges. Lead high-priority finance projects such as inventory financing, pricing analysis, software and vendor spend reviews, commission plan design, ERP or planning-tool evaluation, and fundraising or diligence preparation. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 8+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including ownership of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning in a growing company. Hands-on experience across both accounting and FP&A: you can oversee a high-quality close, review the balance sheet, build an operating model, and turn financial results into business recommendations. Experience in a business with both DTC and B2B revenue, recurring SaaS or subscription revenue, and a high volume of customer transactions. Strong experience with physical products, inventory accounting, landed cost, COGS, product margins, and working-capital management. Experience managing a bookkeeper, accounting partner, or small finance team and establishing clear processes, deadlines, and controls. Strong command of US GAAP applied pragmatically to a fast-moving private company. Advanced financial modeling skills in Excel or Google Sheets and experience working with QuickBooks and ecommerce, payment, subscription, and CRM systems. Strong analytical judgment and communication skills, with the ability to make complex financial information clear and useful to founders and non-finance leaders. A builder's mindset, high ownership, and the willingness to operate hands‑on before building a larger team. NICE TO HAVE CPA, CMA, or similar accounting qualification. Experience at a high-growth DTC brand, consumer hardware company, SaaS business, or omnichannel technology startup. Experience with international manufacturing, supplier deposits, overseas vendor payments, FX, freight, duties, and contract manufacturers. Experience implementing or upgrading an ERP, inventory, financial planning, AP, or reporting system. Experience supporting fundraising, inventory financing, lender relationships, board reporting, M&A, or financial diligence. Familiarity with Shopify, Stripe or other billing platforms, Salesforce, BigQuery, and business‑intelligence tools. COMPENSATION & WORK ENVIRONMENT $160K – $205K base salary plus performance bonus; meaningful equity may be available for the right candidate. Onsite work environment in Culver City, CA.
