Position Summary/Scope of Responsibility Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute (MMI), a division of the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO), is seeking a board certified/board eligible Physiatrist who has completed a pain management fellowship for our busy practice in Frederick, Maryland. This is a unique opportunity to step into a thriving outpatient practice to replace a very busy retiring physician. MMI is the largest group of musculoskeletal specialists in the area, consisting of 14 physicians and 10 mid-level providers offering state-of-the-art care to our patients. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working alongside surgical and non-surgical colleagues to provide comprehensive interdisciplinary care for musculoskeletal, spine and pain-related conditions. Onsite ancillary services include physical therapy, imaging and an accredited ASC.

We are looking for a physician who is patient-centered, clinically skilled and eager to contribute to a dynamic and growing practice. Primary Responsibilities The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Core Values and Operating Principles of CAO. • Plans, establishes, and directs physical medicine and rehabilitation program at assigned Practice and clinic.
• Diagnoses pain as a result of injury, disease, or a disabling condition through medical histories, physical examinations, imaging (e.g., X-ray, ultrasound), EMG/NCV studies, and laboratory test results to determine and implement appropriate treatment plans for patients.
• Recommends and undertakes various medical and interventional procedures within scope of practice, such as disc compression, prolotherapy, vertebroplasty, and other therapeutic techniques; administers medications and local anesthesia as appropriate.
• Prescribes medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, electro-diagnostic studies, and other treatment modalities to improve patient outcomes.
• Actively pursues and participates in research activities as well as mentoring residents and other medical staff in research endeavors.
• Leads a team of medical professionals, including physical therapists, and consults with an interdisciplinary team to optimize and coordinate patient care.
• Participates in group call coverage for the PM&R service.
• Monitors ongoing processes and health of patients, changing treatment plans as necessary.
• Provides adaptive tools to improve the overall health and physical functioning of patients.
• Counsels patients and their families to help adapt to lifestyle changes and advises on treatments to prevent future problems.
• Conducts research on injuries, diseases, and disabling conditions in order to improve and advance treatments.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation by recording all diagnoses, treatments, and prescriptions.
• Refers patients to other physicians or specialists for consultation in an inter-professional manner.
• Ensures consistent compliance with all regulatory and CAO guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Reporting Relationships The Physiatrist reports directly to the Practice Administrator. Required Education and Experience • Licensed and board-certified MD in assigned state(s).
• 4+ years' internship and residency training, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
• Successful completion of USMLE or COMLEX-USA.
• BLS Certification required.
• Must maintain CEU's in pertinent clinical practice according to licensure requirements.
• Excellent knowledge of therapeutic and surgical treatments for the lower extremities
• Experience and proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records. Competencies/Required Skills and Abilities • Strong Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop relationships and collaborate in a decentralized organization.
• Leadership Skills - Ability to effectively manage and motivate staff.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with a proven track record of results.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well both with children and the elderly.
• Empathy and patience when dealing with serious diseases.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of EMR systems.
• Required to be proficient in Windows based office technologies (e.g., Word, Excel).
• Able to work independently.
• Exudes professionalism in presentation.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language. Physical Demands • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics when making necessary transfers and helping patients with exercises.
• Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.
• Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift.
• Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.
• Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, medical equipment, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and telephone.
• Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
• Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
