Adjunct faculty members are needed for the Department of English and Modern Languages at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Resumes will be reviewed as needed for each semester. For Fall 2025, the department seeks candidates who can teach on campus in Princess Anne, Maryland. We are specifically seeking instructors for socio-linguistics courses and digital humanities courses. Occasionally the department might need instructors who can teach online. Successful candidates will demonstrate an understanding of the mission and value of an HBCU education and be able to speak fluently on the dynamics of race, gender, and social inclusivity in their teaching. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in Composition 1 and 2, Technical Writing, and Speech. Qualified instructors may also teach other courses as needed in our literature, linguistics, English education, or digital media tracks.

The title Lecturer will ordinarily be used to designate appointments of persons who are serving in a teaching capacity for a limited time or part-time. The normal requirement is a Master's degree in the field of instruction or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the field of instruction. Appointments to this rank are typically one to three years and are renewable.
