Olivier Cheng Catering and Events is a luxury catering company based in Tribeca. We produce private celebrations, fashion and cultural events, fundraising galas, corporate gatherings, and intimate dinners throughout New York City.

Our events depend on a lot of work behind the scenes, and the dishwashing team is an important part of keeping the kitchen moving.

We’re looking for an experienced dishwasher who can keep up with a busy catering kitchen and take pride in doing the job correctly. You’ll work with both a commercial dish machine and manual washing methods, cleaning everything from sheet pans and cookware to glassware, service pieces, and food containers.

This is not limited to standing at the dish machine. You’ll also keep the dish area clean, handle floors and waste, put equipment away, and occasionally help sort and count items returning from events. Once trained, you should be able to follow our system and complete your work without needing every item double-checked.

• Wash, sanitize, dry, and put away cookware, sheet pans, kitchen tools, food containers, serviceware, glassware, flatware, and event equipment.

• Operate the commercial dish machine and hand-wash delicate, oversized, or specialized items.

• Check cleaned items and rewash anything that does not meet our standards.

• Polish serviceware, glassware, or flatware when needed.

• Keep the dishwashing area clean, organized, stocked, and safe throughout the shift.

• Sweep and mop floors and clean work surfaces, storage areas, and walkways.

• Remove garbage and recycling and keep waste areas clean.

• Use cleaning chemicals safely and follow instructions for labeling, dilution, storage, and protective equipment.

• Help sort, count, and put away equipment returning from events.

• Report damaged equipment, sanitation concerns, or maintenance problems to the Culinary Operations Manager.

• Help with other kitchen cleaning and organization projects as needed.

• At least one year of professional dishwashing or commercial-kitchen experience.

• Experience using a commercial dish machine and washing items by hand.

• Basic knowledge of sanitation and kitchen-safety practices.

• The ability to follow an established system and maintain consistent cleaning standards.

• A reliable person who works efficiently and communicates when there is a problem.

• Comfort working independently after training and as part of a busy culinary team.

• Spanish-English bilingual ability is a plus but not required.

This is a temporary, part-time position available for an immediate start and expected to continue through mid-December. We expect approximately 24 hours per week, with the possibility of continued work after the seasonal assignment.

Shifts will generally begin around 10:00 a.m. and often finish around 7:00 p.m. End times depend on the kitchen’s workload, so some shifts may run later. Most work will be Monday through Friday, although occasional weekend availability may be requested.

This is an active, fully on-site job at our Tribeca commissary. You must be able to:

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Stand and walk for most of the shift.

• Bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and use stairs while carrying equipment or supplies.

• Move dish racks, carts, cleaning materials, and event equipment safely.

• Work around heat, steam, water, breakable items, sharp objects, cleaning products, and changing temperatures.
