Saturday Workshop Design and Build Volunteer

Position summary

We are looking for enthusiastic Design and Build Volunteers to provide hands-on support during our creative, project-based youth sessions. If you love seeing young people discover their potential, enjoy hands-on projects, and want to support the next generation of builders and thinkers, this role is for you!

As a volunteer, you will work directly alongside our Design & Build Facilitators to help students safely bring their projects to life. No prior building experience or formal teaching background is required —just a positive attitude and a willingness to lend a hand.

Building Futures provides hands-on design and build workshops that help students develop real-world skills through creativity and problem-solving. Founded by architects, our curriculum blends design, construction, and STEAM concepts so students don’t just learn—they build, experiment, and think critically.

Our programs serve youth ages 8–18 through in-school programming, Saturday workshops, evening programs, and summer camps. We believe in non-traditional, engaging learning experiences that give students the tools to build their future.

Key responsibilities

• Morning Briefing Support: Arrive slightly before the session to receive a quick project overview and safety brief from the lead staff member.
• "Extra Hands" Assembly Assistance: Help students (ages 8–18) with the physical build process such as holding wood pieces steady, double-checking alignment, or assisting with basic tool use as directed by staff.
• Material & Tool Distribution: Assist the lead facilitator by passing out project supplies, parts, and tools to students when needed to keep the workshop moving smoothly.
• Positive Encouragement: Provide friendly encouragement to students as they experiment and problem-solve through their design projects.
• Safety Eyes & Ears: Help maintain a safe environment by keeping an eye out for loose materials, spills, or cluttered workspaces, and reminding students to keep safety gear on.
• Wrap-Up Cleanup: Join the students and staff at the end of the workshop for a quick, collective cleanup of the workspace.
