Associate Counsel - Austin, TX

Job Summary GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and other first‑party insurance defense. The position is located in Austin, TX, and may be remote with commutable distance to the Austin office. Responsibilities Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda. Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department. Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath. Defend matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable. Qualifications 2–6+ years of litigation experience in related fields (insurance/defense and/or personal injury). Juris Doctor degree. Admission to the Texas Bar and license in good standing to practice law in Texas. Must meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE). Ability to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences. Strong written communication; able to document files in a clear, concise, professional manner. Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, facilitate conflict resolution, and manage priorities and multitask. Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information. Preferred Qualifications Civil litigation experience. Insurance defense‑related litigation experience. Professional communication skills in person, telephone, and written correspondence/email. Location Remote (commutable distance to Austin office). Salary Annual salary range: $104,550.00 – $162,975.00. Final salary will consider scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, training, location, and market factors.
