CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports, they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach almost 80,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today. Youth Enrichment Services (YES) engages school-aged youth between 12 and 21 years old in programming and supportive services that change the culture around violence and encourage positive youth development. YES is delivered in and around schools in neighborhoods with a high prevalence of community violence. YES staff actively recruit and engage youth who are vulnerable to system involvement and may be at risk for interpersonal violence or who have experienced community violence. Reports To: Assistant Program Director What The Outreach Worker Does: Facilitate structured sessions during the school year, providing workshops, group discussions, or mentorship activities focused on topics such as conflict resolution, violence prevention, and positive youth development. Work closely with safety staff to identify and engage at-risk youth. Serve as a visible, approachable presence during school hours to build relationships with students. Detect, interrupt, and mediate conflicts involving students both inside and outside the school. Respond to crisis situations promptly, deescalating conflicts and preventing violence through intervention and mentorship. Collaborate with school personnel and local law enforcement to address incidents and identify recurring “hot spots” for potential conflicts. Provide safe passage for students at least twice weekly (four times weekly for campus schools), ensuring a visible and supportive presence along common routes to public transportation and other high-risk areas. Assist in identifying and addressing conflicts that arise during dismissal or early after-school hours. Actively recruit high-risk youth into the program, providing ongoing support to address their needs and challenges. Establish trust-based relationships with participants, offering guidance and encouragement to help them navigate personal and academic challenges. Mentor participants on prosocial behaviors, life skills, and conflict resolution. Support marketing efforts, including distributing program materials to the school and surrounding community. Document participant interactions, outreach efforts, and mediation activities, maintaining accurate and confidential records. Participate in regular team meetings and required training sessions to stay informed of program updates and best practices. Support program events and activities, providing on-the-ground assistance and mentorship to participants. Maintain open communication with the Lead Mediation Specialist and staff to ensure effective service delivery and perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Mediation Specialist or Program Director. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Education/Experience Required: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency and two years of applicable experience Relevant experience as described above, preferably in a mid-sized (250+ employees) organization. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with participants. Other Requirements: Equally at home conversing with gang members, community activists, law enforcement personnel, and public officials. Familiarity with the Brownsville community challenges of teens and young adults there; strongly preferred. Understanding of sensitivity and commitment to working with families of youth that have experienced gun related trauma. Lived experience related to violence or justice system involvement, offering authenticity and relatability when mentoring participants. Compensation: $25.75 hourly Status: Part-time (35 hours biweekly) Benefits: CAMBA offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, paid time off (vacation, personal, and sick time), and paid holidays. CAMBA is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace. People of color, people with disabilities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are encouraged to apply. We consider all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, creed, gender, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, disability, socio-economic status, marital or veteran status, pregnancy status or sexual orientation.
