Project Manager, Aviation

Job Description AECOM is currently searching for a Project Manager to support aviation design management in the Hunt Valley, Maryland location. This position is expected to begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line. The position involves planning, design, engineering, and construction for airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Design work includes airfield planning, layout, and site design, earthwork analyses, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, pavement design, construction safety and phasing, aircraft layouts, storm water management design, erosion and sediment control, utility coordination, environmental permitting, and preparation of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates. Construction work includes construction administration and management, shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in‑house disciplines including planners, architects, mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, environmental, geotechnical and special systems engineers. Responsibilities Provides design technical leadership for the aviation civil engineering group and is considered to be a fully capable professional in the airport field. Completes designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilities. Manages a portfolio of clients with multiple projects. Responsible for delivering revenues assigned from specific clients as a result of repeat business caused by flawless execution of projects. Consistently delivers profit margins planned. Consistently completes projects without write‑downs or multiplier erosion. Typically manages projects involving RTF (Risk Triggering Factors). Manages more complex clients and projects. Has decision‑making authority and directs other Project Managers in recognizing risk and uncertainty with plans to mitigate and eliminate such. Directs staff to operate and minimize exposure to claims. Supervises and directs Project Managers with multiple projects or program of projects. Prepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370‑10 and state requirements. Prepares design reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates. Uses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil3D. Coordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub‑consultants, utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clients. Serves as engineering Task Leader and conducts direct task supervision and mentorship of CAD Staff, Designers, and other Engineers at the discretion of the department manager. Performs construction administration. Performs work in accordance with the agreed‑upon budget and schedule. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree + 6 years of related civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review. U.S. Citizenship required due to the projects associated with this position. Preferred: Advanced Experience with Microsoft Office Software. Advanced Experience using AutoCAD/Civil3D design software. Experience in performing construction administration and inspection. Read, write, and communicate effectively. Ability to work in both an office and field (construction) environment. Experience leading airfield design and construction tasks as part of a bigger project. Additional Information Relocation is an option for this position. Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $120,000 to $180,000.
