Community Training Home II Direct Support Professional (DSP I) ? Full Time Position
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED ? 18 years of age or older.
- Preferably one year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or related field.
- Must have a South Carolina Driver?s License, a good driving record as determined by Executive Director and available reliable transportation & be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Willing to work flexible hours, performing a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice.
- Possess the ability to work independently and autonomously.
- The ability to perform and use safety measures (CPR/First Aid) is mandatory.
Primary Responsibility:
- Responsible for performing duties in the care and training of individuals with intellectual disabilities in coordinating special techniques, behavior modifications, supervision and security which are designed to integrate persons with disabilities into the community by providing proper training and support systems.
Direct Supervisor:
- Reports to CTH II Coordinator.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care & training to the individuals
- Implement goals & objectives developed in the designated individual?s plan.
- Document & provide concise records of all training & incidents while on duty.
- Be available for additional hours when necessary. Must be able to work all shifts & all days.
- Carry out functions under the direction of the CTH II Coordinator or designee.
- Assist with administering medications and/or ensure self-medication for individuals when applicable.
- Provide transportation for residents to day program, recreational outings & other activities when needed.
- Responsible for preparing & serving proper meals, as recommended by dietician.

- Responsible for all duties that help increase the independence of individuals with disabilities. This includes assisting with self-care activities (e.g. bathing, toileting, grooming, assisting with medication administration as assigned, etc.). Habilitation activities (e.g. socialization, etc.).
- To serve as a role model and develop a rapport with individuals who are under worker?s supervision, ensuring each individual?s rights are protected; his/her safety is ensured; his/her input is respected; and he/she is treated with dignity, respect and in an adult manner.
- Train individuals in are areas that include:
- Providing naturally occurring opportunities for individuals to learn;
- Documenting data during formal training sessions as specified in the individual?s objectives;
- Reinforcing informal training throughout the individual?s daily routine;
- Implementing Behavior Support Programs as written to include documentation of all behavioral incidents. May require physical intervention and the use of restraints as taught by via the MANDT System curriculum.
- Providing leisure/recreational opportunities to include providing transportation to and from events.
- Provides training as outlined on the Objective Data Sheet and participates in the Plan of Service and Called Team Meetings (CTM) as appropriate. Assists the CTH II Coordinator in the completion of task analysis specific monthly progress notes.
- Responsible and accountable for the safety of those individuals assigned during program hours. This includes providing the prescribed level of supervision and accountability throughout the daily routine (e.g. bathing, waking, dining and sleeping hours).
- Responsible to drive van routes assigned, following all safety rules and completing all required documentation as described in the agency?s transportation policy.
- Complete, submit and maintain accurate/legible data as assigned, and notify supervisor of unusual occurrences (e.g. injuries, changes in behavior, sleeping habits, etc.)>
- Provide well-maintained environment, report al maintenance needs to supervisor (at time of occurrence) and complete necessary duties (e.g. sweeping, mopping, laundry, dusting, yard work, etc.).
- Attends training sessions, when scheduled;
- Responsible to perform any and all duties as requested by the CTH II Coordinator or designee that ensures smooth and continued operation of the program, which enhances each individual?s quality of life and the services provided.

General Responsibilities:
- Relationship and Contacts with Others
- Serves as a representative of the Community Training Homes and/or Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs when performing position requirements in community settings. Maintains a professional
standard of conduct when dealing with other agencies, businesses and communities.
- Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with all Community Residential Care Facilities staff, Supervised Living Program staff, Community Training Home staff and/or Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs personnel to provide successful supports for the consumers served.
- Maintains an appropriate and generally accepted level of professionalism in all interactions during working hours and while representing the agency
- Schedule and Time Management
- The Community Training Home II Direct Support Professional I position typically operates within a forty hour workweek; however, due to the nature of the position the daily schedule may be adjusted to accommodate the needs of the agency, staff and consumers.
- Effectively completes all assignments and documentation in a timely manner.
- Utilizes time in a productive manner throughout the work day.
- This position will be considered a non-exempt for the purpose of overtime compensation. (Hourly position)
- Communication
- Prepares documentation as required.
- Communicates in a manner that is easily understood, concise and professional using various modes such as memos, e-mail, phone, etc.
- Continuously advocates for the needs of the individuals.

- Policies and Procedures
- Adheres to the Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs policies and procedures as outlined in the policy and procedure manuals.
- Follows the provisions of all memorandums, directives and applicable laws.
- Follows all policies and laws pertaining to consumer confidentiality.
- Responsible to be familiar with and abide by DHEC Licensing standards, SCDDSN policies/directives and applicable Federal and State Laws.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours, may require lifting and transferring adult individuals; ability to perform housekeeping and cooking tasks; possible physical interventions with individuals who are upset, combative and psychotic; subject to lifting, carrying and restraining individuals; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to complete a two person lift of an individual, or a one person lift using a mechanical lift (with training).
Typical Working Conditions:
- Very heavy work with assistance. Works in comfortable furnished homes with individuals with developmental disabilities, interacts with these individuals and their family members, friends, medical personnel, employers, social services, inter-office personnel, CTH II Coordinator and administrative personnel under all conditions and circumstances; may encounter hostile and combative individuals; accompanies individuals in the CTH II?s to various destinations in the community; is willing to work week-ends and holidays as directed; may be subject to falls, burns, unpleasant odors, etc. during working hours; is subject to exposure to infectious diseases, waste, etc.; may work in various agency buildings during working hours; communicates with direct care staff, human resources and other department supervisors/managers ; is willing to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions when necessary; is subject to frequent interruptions; is subject to physical injury due to behavior intervention throughout the work day. Also, the worker is subject to wear protective clothing to prevent infections.
