Job Description Job Description Job Title: Occupational Therapist Location: Fort Collins - MUST BE A COLORADO RESIDENT FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Director of Exceptional Student Services Work Hours/Days: Part-Time based on student enrollment and special education service needs. Caseload expectations will be aligned with FTE assignment in accordance with state and federal special education guidelines. Wage: $65-$85/per hour. Compensation will be prorated based on FTE assignment. Benefits: Benefit eligibility is based on FTE status. Employees working 30 hours or greater per week are eligible for full benefits including health, dental, vision, 401k and paid leave. Employees working less than 30 hours per week will get paid sick leave. We are a small non-profit organization based in Colorado, passionate about helping charter schools succeed. Job Function The Orthopedic Therapist supports the development of inclusive, data‑driven student services by partnering with school leaders, other SSPs, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to provide high‑quality and compliant physical therapy services to qualifying students. This role strengthens MTSS/RTI frameworks, trauma‑informed practices, SEL‑aligned supports, and inclusive access to school environments, while ensuring compliance and cultural responsiveness in mobility, motor, and functional assessments within special education systems. The Orthopedic Therapist provides evaluation, consultation, and intervention services to support the physical, functional, and participation needs of students with disabilities. Through collaborative problem‑solving, targeted professional learning, and team‑based planning, the Orthopedic Therapist helps educators and families implement effective mobility, positioning, and accessibility supports across school environments, including services for students with 504 plans, Gifted education needs, and Multi‑Lingual Learners. The Orthopedic Therapist is a key member of the multidisciplinary evaluation and IEP teams, with some remote consultation and planning. Orthopedic Therapist (School‑Based Physical Therapist) Job Function The Orthopedic Therapist supports inclusive, data‑driven student services by partnering with school leaders, other Special Services Providers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to deliver high‑quality, compliant physical therapy services to qualifying students. This role strengthens MTSS/RTI frameworks, trauma‑informed practices, SEL‑aligned supports, and inclusive access to school environments , while ensuring culturally responsive and legally compliant mobility, motor, and functional assessments within special education systems. The Orthopedic Therapist provides evaluation, consultation, and intervention services to support the physical, functional, and participation needs of students with disabilities. Through collaborative problem‑solving, targeted professional learning, and team‑based planning, the Orthopedic Therapist helps educators and families implement effective mobility, positioning, accessibility, and safety supports across school environments, including for students served through 504, Gifted, and Multi‑Lingual Learner pathways. The Orthopedic Therapist is a key member of multidisciplinary evaluation and IEP teams, with opportunities for remote consultation and planning. Core Responsibilities Assessment, Evaluation & Compliance Conduct school‑based PT evaluations addressing mobility, strength, balance, motor control, endurance, and functional school participation. Contribute diagnostic information to multidisciplinary evaluations aligned with IDEA and Colorado eligibility criteria. Develop IEP goals, service plans, progress‑monitoring systems, and required documentation. Assess needs for adaptive equipment, mobility devices, environmental modifications, and accessibility supports . Intervention & Direct Student Support Provide direct and consultative PT services to support safe access to school environments and functional independence. Implement evidence‑based interventions for gait, balance, motor planning, strength, and functional mobility. Support students in navigating classrooms, playgrounds, hallways, buses, and community‑based settings. Reinforce routines, safety strategies, and motor skills that promote participation across the school day. Collaboration, Inclusive Practices & Teaming Collaborate with teachers, special educators, SLPs, OTs, psychologists, nurses, and families to support functional participation. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, eligibility determinations, and IEP development. Promote inclusive practices such as UDL, accessible environments, safe transfer routines, and mobility accommodations . Provide family‑centered strategies to support mobility, positioning, and functional skills at home. Data‑Based Decision Making & Progress Monitoring Use assessment and progress‑monitoring data to guide intervention planning and adjust supports. Support teams in interpreting functional mobility and motor data to inform instructional and behavioral strategies. Maintain accurate service logs, progress reports, and compliance documentation. Professional Learning & Staff Support Provide training to staff on safe lifting, transfers, positioning, adaptive equipment, and accessibility supports. Offer consultation to ensure consistent implementation of PT strategies across environments. Provide family education on mobility, safety, and functional skill development. Qualifications Education & Licensure Master's or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. Valid Colorado PT license and/or CDE Special Services Provider (SSP) license in Physical Therapy. Training in motor development, functional mobility, and school‑based PT practices. Ongoing professional development in trauma‑informed practices, SEL, and inclusive education. Experience Experience providing school‑based PT services to students with disabilities. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting diverse learners. Experience with adaptive equipment, mobility devices, and functional skill development. Experience providing remote consultation or tele‑PT preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and school‑based PT service delivery. Skill in functional, motor, and mobility assessments. Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and service providers. Strong communication, cultural responsiveness, and documentation skills. Ability to support adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and accessibility planning. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work is performed in a classroom setting.
