About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day, Evening Hours per Shift: 11am - 11pm Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ER experience with trauma Level I and II. License: Valid RN License required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS. TNCC preferred. Must-Have: Epic EMR proficiency required, used within the last 5 years. Description: Start dates are not flexible. Candidates must have at least two years of ER experience with trauma Level I and II in the past two years. If experience includes Level III/CAH or lower, the clinician cannot be considered. There is a 100-mile radius rule in effect. No guaranteed hours of 48 hours. No blocked scheduling requests allowed. No more than five days of RTO will be accepted. Ratios are 1:5 for medical cases and 1:6 for fast track cases. The trauma level is rated as Level 3, and the emergency room operates like a Level 1. STEMI and stroke cases are managed on-site, but patients requiring stroke intervention will be transported elsewhere. The emergency room features 52 beds and four trauma bays. On average, the emergency department treats 200 patients per day. There is a shared schedule with a nearby facility, and shifts are typically scheduled ahead of time. Floating to other departments may occur, but infrequent last-minute requests will be honored. The RN must read their own telemetry and also have access to a monitor tech. There are six fast track beds available in the unit. Quick look triage areas are set up for swift patient assessment. Patient holds are intermixed within the emergency room. There are no seclusion rooms available for psychiatric patients. Security is present on-site 24/7. Common patient diagnoses include a variety of emergency needs. Common drips include ICU drips for patients being held, with support from ICU staff as needed. The medical team consists of varied shifts for physicians and mid-level providers. There is no charge nurse assigned to each shift; assistance can be provided by a house supervisor if necessary. ED techs with two years of experience in EKG, vitals, blood draws, and splint application are available on each shift. Respiratory therapy is accessible 24/7 for procedures such as ABGs, nebulizer treatments, and ventilation support. Equipment available includes specialized machines for respiratory assistance. Both X-ray and CT scan services are available directly within the emergency department. ED techs or RNs will perform blood draws, as no phlebotomy staff is assigned. Shifts start at varied times including 7, 10, 11, 12, 1, and 3, with a modified self-scheduling system in place. Weekend shifts require working four weekends in a four-week block. Typically, you will need to work two of the five holidays including eves. Scrub color for nursing staff is navy blue. There is a structured unit-specific orientation consisting of one day for clinical, one day for EPIC training, and one day on the floor. Cancellation policy allows for equivalent hours to be canceled for the assignment duration.
