Job Description The Licensed Optician will primarily assist patients in selecting eyeglass frames, lenses, and lens coatings that best suit their needs. The Licensed Optician will also ensure lab technicians have accurate measurements and prescription information for grinding, coating, and fitting lenses to the frames, and will be responsible for dispensing finished glasses to patients. Duties and Responsibilities Provide exceptional customer service Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions as well as payment, return, and exchange policies Compute and process payments and refunds using the in‑house Point of Sale system Perform other administrative tasks as assigned Process insurance claims Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of products Create and maintain patient files following company and HIPAA confidentiality policies Input customer information into the computer system Assess and interpret patients’ needs based on prescriptions, facial features, lifestyle, and occupation, and suggest appropriate products Take measurements (e.g., pupillary distance) Prepare work orders for the lab with all pertinent information Pull correct lenses according to order specifications Inspect final product for accuracy; adjust glasses using pliers, hands, and heat as necessary Educate patients on caring for their glasses Adjust, repair damaged frames, replace nose pads and screws Price, stock, and straighten merchandise Education and Experience Requirements High School Diploma or GED Experience in the optical industry and current state license required Skills and Abilities Ability to stand for prolonged periods (up to 8 hours per shift) Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist as needed Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs Excellent hand‑eye coordination and fine motor skills Basic office equipment operation Clear oral and written communication Accurate reading and entry of prescription specifications Multi‑tasking and problem‑solving skills Time management and prioritization under high customer volume Ability to handle stressful situations with dissatisfied customers Effective teamwork and relationship building with colleagues Work primarily in an indoor retail store setting High level of public interaction Independent work with patients Fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment Use of small manual tools (screwdrivers, pliers, etc.) regularly Exposure to dust, fumes, glass or plastic particulates, chemicals, metal alloys, moderate noise, fluorescent lighting, cleaning agents, and electrical energy in the lab environment Eyemart Express is an equal opportunity employer and offers employment consideration to qualified applicants without regard to age, gender, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or protected veteran status.
