E&C Engineer

Responsible for the design, modeling, development and testing of a machine, structure or system. Develops functional requirements. Understands and applies standard engineering principles. Creates simulations and prototypes to evaluate preliminary designs and test how a machine, structure or system operates. Designs and tests components, and integrates components to produce final product. Monitors quality of products and controls the efficiency of processes. Evaluates a design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Investigates root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.


Job Details

1. Explain what the scope of the work/project is? Project Overview, deliverables (what is this person responsible for).

Performs point-to-point testing for distribution field devices (e.g., 3 closures, cap racks, sectionalizing cabinets), and distribution substation equipment in Texas. Includes logistical prep, scheduling with crews, and working in a SIP-controlled environment.

1. What does a typical day look like?

Includes logistical setup for device testing, collaboration with internal teams, executing point-to-point testing, tracking and reporting results using Excel or PowerApps.

1. What is the size of the group this position will be supporting? Who are some of the key players this person will be working with?

Supports Texas but also remote support for Colorado and NSP services. Interacts with engineering, line crews, troublemen, control center operators, and substation personnel.

Internal only.

Hybrid; collaborative during prep and logistics; individual contributor during actual testing. Work occurs primarily in a Control Center environment.

Minimal. Primarily a desk job in a secure environment. Occasional field visits for perspective, but not high-risk.

1. What is the ramp up time/process for this role? Aside from having the required skill set, approximately how long will it take to train on Xcel's process, procedures/policy?

Estimated 6 months to become proficient. Training may include on-the-job time in Colorado with a senior tester.

1. What are the work hours/shift (standard, evening, full time/part time, OT required, on-call for 24/7 operation)?

Standard 40-hour work week, hybrid model. Occasional work-from-home when testing isn't scheduled. No current overtime planned, but may change.

• If you expect a resource to work OT, can you provide an estimate on the average amount of OT hours they would work? *Please note that you/Xcel will be charged an OT premium rate for any hours over 40.
