Automotive Mechanic

Poplarville School District is currently accepting applications for the position of Transportation Mechanic. Mechanic experience and/or certifications preferred but not required. CDL with P and S endorsements with air brakes is required. Reports to: Transportation Director (TD). Job goal: To keep the district's buses in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. Essential functions include supervising the diagnosing, assigning, and repairing of district automotive equipment, maintaining a current inventory of supplies and equipment, establishing an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care, setting up and supervising a system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies and the keeping of records and inventories, laying out, assigning, supervising, and inspecting the work of the mechanics in the overhaul and repair of district automotive equipment, promoting high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas, being prompt arriving at work and to any appointments/assignments, being available for team communications by email/text/voice or any other means as directed by the TD or Designee, agreeing to, understanding, and operating under the Transportation Team's operating procedures. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the recruitment, screening, training, and evaluating of garage employees, participating in and completing the approved district Staff Development Program, and performing such other tasks and assuming such other responsibilities as the immediate supervisor may from time to time assign. Performance of the individual holding this job will be evaluated by this position's immediate supervisor. Evaluations will be performed annually for means of determining the re-hiring/termination at this position. Evaluations may be done several times throughout the year at the discretion of this position's immediate supervisor. Job location: Bus Barn. Scope of work: Buses, district vehicles, district equipment, bus barn garage, tools, and equipment. Smartphone: The Automotive Mechanic is required to have a cell phone for use in communicating with the Transportation Director, drivers, and other Transportation Team members. Payscale: This position is based on a base twelve month agreement (actual total days worked will be reported on yearly worker agreement). Compensation and work year to be established by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. This position is "At Will."
