ASAM Licensing Specialist

Title: ASAM Licensing Specialist Agency: Dept Behavioral Health/Development, Pay Band 5, Hiring Range up to $84,872, Location: Central Office. The position is for the Northern Virginia Region (Region II) covering Arlington County, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Prince William County, and Loudoun County. Job Responsibilities The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) seeks an experienced professional to serve as a Licensing Specialist in the Northern Virginia Region. The candidate will provide regulatory technical assistance and conduct statutory inspections and investigations of licensed substance use providers to ensure services are consistent with the department’s rules and regulations. Duties include: Conducting inspections and investigations of licensed substance use providers Reviewing complaints, serious incident reports, and site inspections Issuing and modifying licenses and reviewing requests to modify services Providing regulatory technical assistance to providers on compliance, corrective actions, and licensing actions Monitoring provider compliance and recommending licensing actions based on reviews Maintaining frequent daytime travel; field position with occasional overnight travel; 100% telework approved but onsite meetings as requested Minimum Qualifications Understanding of clinical assessments and how they tie to service plan development and implementation. Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, mental health diagnoses, and/or developmental disabilities. Administrative, management, and/or quality assurance experience with public and private service delivery systems. Experience interpreting regulations and policies. Ability to develop professional relationships, communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders. Additional Considerations Certified Substance Use Counselor. Knowledge of and experience using the ASAM levels of care for treatment or to monitor service compliance. Regulatory experience.
