Summary: Join a dedicated team as a Financial Counselor, providing essential support in patient financial clearance and insurance verification within a vibrant healthcare environment in the Southeastern United States. This role involves interviewing patients to gather detailed demographic and financial information, verifying insurance benefits, and ensuring proper authorization for medical procedures and services. Key Responsibilities:
Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate effectively, operate office equipment, and perform tasks involving lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work environment includes office and call center settings with moderate noise levels.
- Conduct patient and insurance interviews to secure benefits and verify eligibility using various electronic and telephonic methods.
- Manage pre-admission and admission scheduling, ensuring accurate demographic and financial data entry.
- Validate medical necessity for procedures, coordinating with physicians and case management as needed.
- Inform patients about their financial responsibilities, collect payments, and assist with payment arrangements.
- Handle insurance denials by performing follow-ups and initiating appeals or retro-authorizations.
- Maintain accurate documentation in patient accounting systems and uphold compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Meet accuracy standards and contribute to the integrity of patient accounts through diligent data management.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration, or Computer Technology preferred.
- Patient Access Specialist certification (CPAS) required within one year of employment.
- Minimum of one year insurance or clerical experience in a hospital or medical office setting.
- Strong knowledge of insurance processes and payment collections.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage stress and adapt to changing patient and organizational needs.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts as required.
