We believe that Port Jobs changes lives. For over 25 years, we have provided workforce development assistance to Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) for employers, job seekers, and workers. Our SEA-based Airport University classroom is located inside the airport, in a bustling environment where all are welcome and included. Our Airport Jobs office staff provide career navigation, while helping people apply for airport jobs. Our hotlist of open positions across the airport is updated weekly and is highly searchable at . Our staff work in partnership with college instructors to help participants improve their academic skills, apply for tuition benefits, and make career plans. Our hiring events with airport employers help jobseekers and workers advance and underscore the vital role that our Port Jobs plays in supporting SEA hiring, career advancement, and retention.

We are seeking to hire an Executive Director.

The Executive Director is responsible for directing the strategic planning, community engagement, fundraising, administrative and financial management necessary for Port Jobs to fulfill its mission. As the strategic leader of the organization, the Port Jobs Executive Director plays a vital role in promoting Port Jobs mission, vision, philosophy, and culture; due to Port Jobs small size, the Executive Director also has extensive administrative responsibilities. The Executive Director is hired by and serves at the pleasure of the Port Jobs Board of Directors. Port Jobs is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.

Port Jobs Executive Director Position Summary

Strategic Leadership (35%)

  • In collaboration with Port Jobs staff and board, provide leadership to ensure organizational alignment of work, fiscal and operational accountability.
  • Host and attend meetings with funders and other stakeholders to communicate Port Jobs' achievements, and organizational sustainability needs.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow existing and new partnerships with the Port of Seattle, SEA Airport employers, college, and community-based organization partners.
  • Identify current and emerging risks and mitigation strategies, while ensuring compliance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Anticipate and track the demographic trends that influence SEA Airport workforce hiring and advancement of recruitment priorities and needs.

Program Development, Management and Administration (25%)

  • Oversee and support program management staff to ensure services are efficient and adhere to promising practices.
  • Support in a positive team environment efficient day-to-day operation and inform staff of where process improvements are needed.
  • Provide ongoing oversight to ensure and support staff hiring, orientation, supervision, and professional development.
  • Approve timesheets of salaried staff and all expense reimbursements and vacation requests.

Operational Management (20%)

  • Collaborate with the Operations Director and other key personnel and Port Jobs board of directors to plan and oversee the budget and ensure fiscal regulatory requirements are met.
  • In partnership with staff, contractors and stakeholders, ensure efficient operation of data collection and technology infrastructure.

Community Engagement and Advocacy (20%)

  • Build and nourish relationships with community partners, funders, media, and other stakeholders; effectively leverage resources with those offered by key partners.

Qualifications for Port Jobs Executive Director

Education/Experience

  • Masters Degree in Nonprofit Management, MBA, Public Affairs, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of nonprofit management experience supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of workforce development and community college systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with employers, community-based organizations, and education partners.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with diverse socio-economic and cultural characteristics of clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Strong strategic planning, managerial, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience negotiating health insurance, contracts, leases, and other agreements.
  • Experience implementing and overseeing program monitoring, evaluation, and performance accountability.
  • Experience ensuring fiscal sustainability.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating and managing multiple contracts and grants.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Managerial experience in a diverse work environment.
  • Experience collaborating with local community-based organizations to ensure effective referrals and promote strategic alignment of wrap-around resources.
  • Experience communicating with auditors and lawyers on compliance issues.
  • Relevant local experience navigating the complexities of workforce development experienced by communities furthest from opportunity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Background and Credit Check

Port Jobs will conduct background checks on finalists appropriate to this positions contractual requirements, which include fiscal responsibilities and the ability to pass a secure badge test at SEA.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time position, with a salary starting at approximately $160,000 DOE and a generous benefit package. The final compensation offer will be commensurate with the selected candidates qualifications and experience. Port Jobs offers a generous leave and benefits package including 11 company holidays, 2 personal holidays, and additional sick and vacation leave accruing monthly starting immediately. Port Jobs provides excellent health insurance, as well as dental, vision, ADD/LDD, and employee assistance plans. Port Jobs provides a Profit Share plan that is 100% employer paid, eight percent on top of salary annually, equivalent to an employer-paid 401k for nonprofit employees; two years vesting is required. An optional 403b plan and Flexible Spending Account option for health and dependent care expenses are also available.

Work is onsite and physical in-office presence is mandatory.
