Under the supervision of the radiologist, department director and supervisor, the employee is responsible for the operation of mammography and radiography equipment to perform diagnostic exams while providing quality, expedient service to patients and physicians.

Qualifications

1 year of experience preferred. Mammography registry within 1 year of hire. Qualified by MQSA standards. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Training in an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.

Area of Responsibilities

Exhibits department and facility mission characteristics with patients, visitors, family members, co-workers, physicians and/or office staff members and others they may come in contact with as a representative of Tanner Health System, always presenting exemplary customer service. Maintains appropriate and accurate records for each patient encounter, assuring confidentiality is maintained at all times. Performs quality mammography and radiographic exams, i.e., mammography, stereotactic breast biopsies, needle localization and bone density; consistently meeting standards set by ACR and THS Radiologists. Responsible for continuous compliance and maintenance of QA/QC functions related to mammographic equipment. Responsible for maintaining all licenses, ACR and MQSA. Completes Net Learning requirements. Demonstrates competency and ability to navigate all computer modalities (Meditech, PACS and Web PACS, etc.). Demonstrates competency in patient care according to the age of the patient and population served; adult and geriatric. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs demonstrates knowledge of growth and development demonstrates understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients (age and diagnosis). Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with hospital policy and procedures including but not limited to: safety, life safety, security, equipment, utilities, disaster preparedness, hazardous materials and waste. Follows Standard Precautions. Demonstrates knowledge of pain management and responds appropriately. Distinguishes and responds appropriately to disaster and/or emergency situations. Maintains confidentiality of all patient data and medical information. Makes independent decisions and displays emotional maturity. Utilizes sound judgement in making decisions in the absence of the supervisor. Responsible for assuring prompt and accurate services are provided to all customers. Makes suggestions for improvement of patient care, processes or procedures. Monitors environment and assures patient, employee and visitor safety. Participates in orientation and training of new employees. Participates in PI/CQI and related activities. Understands and participates in The Joint Commission requirements. Responsible for individual continuing education to maintain registry. Responsible for monitoring, assisting and maintaining radiology equipment and accessories in satisfactory operating condition. Safely and appropriately performs any other designated duties.

Compliance Statement

Effect Of Error

Probable errors not easily detected and may adversely affect external as well as internal relationships and may result in major expenditures for equipment, materials, or procedures detrimental to the patient's welfare or the organization's interest. Work is subject to general review only and requires considerable accuracy and responsibility. Continually works with reports, records, plans, and programs of a major functional area of the organization where integrity is required to safeguard the organization's position. Duties may involve the preparation of data on which the administration bases important decisions and are highly confidential.

Mental Demands

Work involves a variety of problems in a general field, some of which are complex. Involves some independent judgment to decide what to do to assemble facts, determine variations from standard procedures, or plan other action to be taken to meet general objectives.

Physical Effort

Medium physical effort - Lifts, carries, or handles lightweight (1 to 25 lbs.) materials or equipment for most of the day. Occasional physical effort with medium weight objects (25-60 lbs.). Very occasional physical effort with heavy objects (over 60 lbs.). Works in reaching or strained positions for about half of day.

Working Conditions

Moderate - (About 50% of the day) Involved in exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk. Limited probability of coming into contact with blood borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
