Senior Operations Research Analyst/Data ScientistTetra Tech AMT is looking for a Senior Operations Research Analyst/Data Scientist to support a highly visible new FAA project in the initial stand up of executable processes and analytics at the direction of FAA management for pre-departure planning.Primary job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:Establish a process for strategic deconfliction in collaboration with internal and external aviation stakeholders for a new FAA Traffic Flow Management Evolution Program for a potential "24/7" operationWork 40 hours a week but potentially work late night shifts and weekends at times to cover overnight and weekend data modeling needsCollect historical data, observe network of applicable systems in action, and interview stakeholders to understand operational bottlenecks and business process inefficienciesUsing programming languages, along with specialized software, to potentially build quantitative models to simulate various scenariosHelp determine the most efficient and ideal best course of action (e.g., build data models that translate to lower fuel burden, less aircraft downtime, shorter block times, and faster flights) given a strict set of real-world constraintsDocument the FAA process, roles, and responsibilities to enable execution of strategic deconfliction process plan for day of operations in the National Airspace System (NAS) Work with FAA and industry vendor(s) who will architect and build the analytical data model and provide feedback as necessaryCollaborate with FAA stakeholders and external industry partners (as needed) to obtain necessary data to operate logistically optimized modelEnter data into analytical models (long range and same day planning) to develop strategic deconfliction plansAs needed, support the training of FAA staff on process execution related to newly designed traffic flow management programDocument all lessons learned and FAA process improvement opportunities for evolution of strategic deconfliction processes/capabilityApply knowledge in the domain of operations research to optimize NAS strategic deconfliction planDefine post event analysis criteria and data expectationsDocument recommended process improvement opportunitiesProvide expertise in the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical FAA products and systemsThe successful candidate will have:Deep expertise in data collection and modeling in support of the federal government and preferably in support of FAA missionDeep analytical thinking, strong programming skills, and the ability to translate highly technical data into actionable, strategic recommendations for non-technical stakeholdersSome background in air traffic management and airport operations including FAA traffic flow management practicesBroad knowledge of operations research procedures, methodologies, and can provide technical expertise in the application of state-of-the-art technology to meet FAA mission and aerospace requirementsFlexible work schedule that may require working at FAA in-person and cover nights, weekends and even some holidays during the year as this is in support of a national and highly visible FAA projectPotentially be on call to cover shifts when anticipated higher days of operations or team members are unavailable/on scheduled vacationAt least 10 years of professional years of experience supporting projects as an Operations Research Analyst but preferably in support of the FAA/NASA or at least the federal governmentA Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering (e.g. Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics) or related fieldSalary: $120,000 to $130,000 annually.
