Job Summary

The Cath Lab Technologist I using specific high-technology equipment and at the discretion of a qualified physician, performs endovascular procedures on patients leading to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. The cardiac cath lab technologist will learn to monitor patient's hemodynamic status, document during procedures, and scrub during the endovascular procedures to assist the physician. The Cath Lab Technologist I maintains job and license requirements, attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education and completes all required competency assessments on time. Performs ACC requirements and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Assists Physician with Endovascular Cardiac and Peripheral Vascular Procedures
The Cath Lab Technologist I will assist during endovascular cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures. They will learn sterile technique by scrubbing and draping the patient during their procedure. They will learn how specific wire, catheters, balloons, and supplies needed and the process of using the equipment during diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Performs Hemodynamic Monitoring
The Cath Lab Technologist I through elbow-to-elbow training will learn how to interpret the patient's hemodynamic status. They will learn how to identify normal and abnormal rhythms as well as learn the parameters of normal and abnormal invasive and non-invasive pressures. The Cath Lab Technologist I will utilize this skill set and become and active team member in managing/interpreting the patient's hemodynamic status before, during, and after procedures.


Inventory Control and Supplies/Implant Documentation
The Cath Lab Technologist I will be an active team member in the management of supplies/implants in the cardiac cath lab. They will learn how to scan items to ensure appropriate charging and decrementing from the inventory system. They will work with the Inventory Control Coordinator to ensure that when products are not scanned or are not built in the system that they will be managed appropriately. They will ensure that the supplies/implants used during the procedure are scanned into the patient's cath lab record to ensure proper documentation of products.

Imaging and Data Documentation
The Cath Lab Technologist I will ensure that patient information is submitted into the fluoroscopy system prior to starting an exam and that patient information is correct in the hemodynamic charting system. Following the end of an exam, they will push the images to the hemodynamic PACs system so that images are stored and not lost for prior use or review by the staff and/or physicians. They will work with the lead technologists and system administrators if any issues arise.


Patient Care
The Cath Lab Technologist I will utilize patient identifiers prior to prepping the patient for their procedure. They will prep and drape the patient with respect and privacy. They will explain the procedure and process that they are doing to make the patient feel at ease. They will position the patient for the procedure but ensuring that they do not have any injuries due to positioning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Heavy Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs with a maximum lifting of 100 lbs.

1-2 years as a Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist preferred.
