Custodian Full Time (2nd Shift)

Custodian

Will provide general cleaning and floor care services using a variety of specialized chemicals and equipment. Performs custodial duties required for maintaining assigned rooms, equipment, buildings and adjacent areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.

Secures the rooms and building and performs related work as required.

Opens/secures the building, according to the daily schedule.

Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, neat, clean and safe at all times.

Sweeps, scrubs, dusts and otherwise cleans offices, hallways, lavatories, classrooms, cafeteria, library, multipurpose rooms, and stairways.

Washes windows, walls, sinks, and fountains.

Requests cleaning supplies before existing supplies are depleted.

Does emergency clean-up resulting from breakage, vandalism, spillage or illness.

Safely operates a variety of custodial equipment.

Refinishes and seals floors. Vacuums and shampoos carpets.

Stores supplies and equipment in a neat and safe manner.

Accepts and off loads deliveries from vendors. Verifies contents of shipment received and forwards paperwork to the school office.

Sets up chairs, tables and other equipment for school performances and events.

When not engaged in custodial activities, may perform a variety of tasks at the school.

Attends training sessions as assigned.

Removes snow and dispenses ice-melt as needed.

Performs light maintenance including, but is not limited to, assembling furniture, light painting, routine service of custodial equipment, hanging pictures and other things, and replacement of light bulbs, as required.

Performs light grounds maintenance such as weeding flowerbeds, mowing, etc.

Observes assigned work hours.

Maintains regular attendance.

Complies with Board of Education policies.

Consistently observes established safety procedures.

Exhibits the ability to complete assignments on a regular schedule.

Reports to Maintenance Supervisor or Building Principal, any repairs that need attention that are beyond his/her ability to complete.

Anticipates job tasks that need to be performed.

Demonstrates the essential procedures of cleaning and sanitizing.

Acts as an effective member of the district's custodial team.

Demonstrates the ability to follow directions in written, oral or diagram form.

Recognizes the impact of regulations (health, safety, and fire) on the school and assists with the compliance of these regulations.

Accepts responsibility for work assigned.

Exhibits a positive attitude toward the work assigned.

Possesses physical health necessary for an effective job performance.

Maintains appropriate appearance and personal hygiene.

Maintains a good relationship with school staff, students, administrators, and the public.

Methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture and furnishings.

Basic safety practices related to cleaning methods.

Maintain work schedule in performing tasks.

Perform heavy physical labor.

Work without immediate supervision.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in institutional cleaning is desired but not required.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers and decimals.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Must be able to understand/follow basic safety precautions involved in the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Must be able to understand and follow a work schedule and complete assigned tasks in the time allotted.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The noise in the work environment is moderately loud.
