ICU
# Beds: 8 total beds; average census is 3-4 patients
Nurse/Patient Ratios: 1:1-2 (2-3 nurses on per shift)
Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, dysrhythimia certification through AHA (can be done online by completing course material and exam, print certificate upon passing exam)
PALS and TNCC preferred

Common diagnoses/Types of patients
High number of sepsis patients, medical-surgical patients, DKA, CHF, COPD, cardiac caths get shipped out because they do not have cath lab. Most patients on this unit are borderline stepdown patients.


Experience or 'Must have' skills
2-5 years in specialty required and must have experience working in smaller ICU; Must be able to hit the ground running, blend into culture/family atmosphere, and be a team player. Prefer Cerner experience. Will take first time travelers.


Are RNs required to titrate drips: Yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Levo, heparin, insulin, dopamine
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Yes - they take patient assignment
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: No - do have Unit clerk
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: Hopsitalist in house 24/7 - ICU tele-intensivist available 24/7they have to be available 24/7 but not actually in house.
RT in ICU 24/7: Yes - they take patient assignment
RT Equipment: Via or Hamiltons vents;
Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? phillips - central monitoring tech monitors ER as well
Shifts & Scheduling: 12 hrs 7-7 , self scheduling to some degree, schedules made out about 30-45 days in advance
Weekend Requirements: every other or 4 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Holiday Requirements: work in perm staff rotation
Is there a call or standby requirement: not required but if they want to take call they can
Floating Requirements: Would rarely float but if they did it would be to medsurg where pt ratio would be 1 to 5, could also float to peds 1 to 4 if qualified and ER if qualified
Scrub Color/Dress Code: Navy Blue Scrubs
Unit/Department specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
