Additional Information About the Role Sign-On Bonus $7,500 (for eligible applicants) Monday thru Friday 40 Hours per Week Every 3rd weekend required Holiday rotation required (3 per year) Overview Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care, including Children’s at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. The hospital provides a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services and is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. It also recently received American College of Radiology accreditation as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been a Magnet‑recognized organization for nursing excellence. Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94‑bed, all‑private suite hospital, was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care. The Laboratory Department offers a wide variety of assays and procedures for diagnosing and treating most disease states for inpatient and outpatient patients. Services include phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, point‑of‑care and pathology. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine/complex testing on blood and other specimens, requiring knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, procedure methodologies, and reference ranges. The role involves maintaining documentation of all activities and demonstrating good clinical laboratory practice. Responsibilities Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results. Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area. Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation. Assesses technical or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluates possible solutions, and chooses an appropriate course of action to solve the problem. Reports and maintains records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turnaround times for routine testing and statistical tests. Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Handles specific quality functions in an organized and timely manner. Minimum Requirements Education Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Life Science or a related field. Experience Less than 2 years of relevant experience. Supervisor Experience No supervisor experience required (preferred: less than 2 years). Licenses & Certifications ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent or eligible.
