Job Summary and Qualifications The Invasive Registered Nurse delivers patient care and creates a therapeutic environment for patients and families with needs ranging from basic to complex, utilizing the nursing process. They function in accordance with Performance Improvement and hospital policies and procedures, demonstrating clinical excellence through proficient practice. Major Responsibility: Deliver quality nursing care and commit to quality care processes. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for patient care and discharge planning. Meet the educational needs of patients and families. Seek professional development and foster the image of nursing. Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status. Assess potential for crisis situations and intervene. Reassess patient status at established time frames. Analyze patient data and identify nursing diagnoses/patient care problems. Communicate patient status and assessed needs to the multidisciplinary team. Develop an individualized plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team. Review and update the plan of care as needed. Act as a resource to others in developing and implementing the plan of care. Use the nursing process as a basis for developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing interventions. Provide patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Perform technical skills as needed by the specific clinical unit safely and competently. Coordinate and implement medical diagnostic and therapeutic orders. Anticipate and manage complications of disease progression and invasive procedures. Document plan of care, assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in an electronic medical record. Report status, including response to care, and changes in status as appropriate. Ensure a calm, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. Adhere to all safety, organizational, and ethical standards. Implement elements of core measures in conjunction with Performance Improvement. Identify current trends that could impact patient outcomes. Identify system resources effectively and allocate them appropriately. Manage specific complex clinical procedures common to patients in the area of practice. Serve as a primary preceptor for new staff members or student nurses. Take on the role of Charge Nurse. Employ critical thinking skills to solve problems and achieve patient outcomes. Identify and communicate needs for innovative nursing practices. Identify and communicate the need for new or revised policies, procedures, guidelines, etc. Identify research as a resource in clinical practice. Stay current with new resources/knowledge/evidence. Serve as a resource/trainer for colleagues regarding competencies, policies, procedures, and clinical practice. Utilize the change process to improve patient care, the work environment, and patient and staff satisfaction. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in initiating discharge planning upon admission. Anticipate, plan for, and manage psychological and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Communicate with patients, families, staff, volunteers, and management in an accurate, considerate, and timely manner. Accept constructive feedback and initiate appropriate actions to correct situations. Foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration within the department and hospital. Interact with staff, patients, and members of the public with dignity and respect. Promote and maintain positive relationships between academia, physicians, the community, and the hospital. Appropriately initiate consults as needed, document consults, and help ensure the plan of care is followed through. Identify and utilize cost-effective resources in the hospital, community, and beyond as needed. Facilitate the transition of the patient through the continuum of care. Use the best current evidence to decide when to modify clinical practice. Provide health education to patients and families. Integrate adopted Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring and CMC Professional Practice Model into professional practice development and educational programs. Develop an individualized education plan for the patient and family. Provide education based on patient/family’s assessed needs, in accordance with the plan of care. Serve as a resource to colleagues in developing and implementing a teaching plan. Demonstrate accountability and competency for own nursing practice. Demonstrate accountability and competency for maintaining current credentials and competency in required skills. Recognize the uniqueness of the individual and show respect for patients, families, and all healthcare providers. Demonstrate caring behaviors toward the patient and significant others receiving care. Promote and maintain a positive image of nursing. Use national safety resources (OSHA, The Joint Commission, CMS) for professional development and to focus attention on assuring safe practice. Demonstrate self-direction in pursuing opportunities for role-related growth and development. Promote and support the principles of shared decision-making. Act as an effective role model and resource for students and support staff. Delegate responsibly to others, activities according to ability, level of preparation, the standards of practice, and regulatory guidelines.
