Paramedic We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paramedic to join our emergency medical services team. Position Summary Demonstrate competency in trauma and medical situations and possess the knowledge and the necessary skills to provide lifesaving interventions in a pre-hospital setting. Administer emergency care and treatment and determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency care. Provide quality care and transport of patients, assist as needed in emergency room with patient care and other departments as needed. Core Competencies Thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices and techniques, knowledge of how various equipment, such as a monitor or defibrillator, work and how to troubleshoot problems that may arise. Providing patient information for billing and patient records by: Developing a working diagnosis based on information available. Writing a comprehensive report documenting the situation at the scene, exam results, orders received, treatments rendered and supplies used. Obtaining all billing information possible including patients signature for billing purposes. Assures that vehicles are prepared to meet internal and external customer needs by: Maintaining the ambulances, supplies, and equipment. Cleaning and maintaining the ambulances. Inform the manager of deficiencies in supplies, etc for ambulances. Completing appropriate reports including call logs and vehicle check off sheets. Safety Recognizes safety hazards and takes corrective action; seeking assistance when needed. Demonstrates knowledge of operational policies and procedures. Performs work safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property. System Behavior Makes a decision considering the impact of the decision on other area. Initiates collaboration with others outside the service areas. Demonstrates personal commitment to the principles, values and ethics of the organization. Customer Service Paramedics will demonstrate good communication with the receiving facility to get medical direction and to provide patient's status and other critical information. Complete extensive written documentation on patient condition and treatment provided, as well as understand all applicable legal, moral and ethical issues surrounding the emergency medical service. Paramedics maintain communication with the patient and the family, comfort and reassure patients and be able to demonstrate concern and courtesy while maintaining confidentiality of the patient's information. Assist with patient care in the receiving facility; lifting and moving patients as required. Provide welcoming and educational environment for students and complete any academic assessments in a timely fashion. Interacts with Customers/Patients in a Warm and Friendly Way Takes immediate action to meet customer/patient requests or needs. Listens to understand what customers/patients have to say. Work with the Facility Team to meet strategic goals by: Assisting the on-duty supervisor as needed. Assisting the Charge RN as needed in the emergency room with patient care. Represents the Ambulance service and hospital in a positive manner at all times. Informing supervisor of deficiencies as noted. Serves as a Charge Medic. Job Specific Competencies Responds to emergency situations and provides care to patients requiring air or ground transport, ensuring optimum patient care, safety and recovery. Provides care to patient to ensure optimum patient care, safety and recovery. Provides consultation in their areas of expertise, in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team. Participates in and provides educational programs in EMS to ensure the continuous enhancement of skills and the improvement of patient care. Represents the hospitals in private and public sponsored events and presentations. Demonstrates compliance with Infection Control policies and procedures. Performs work in a manner that reduces the risk of transmission of infection to patients, self, and co-workers. Applies knowledge of growth and development in customer/patient interactions and adapts care according to patient's age/developmental stage. Facilitates and supports change within Mahnomen Health. Treats others with respect. Builds effective working relationships. Demonstrates skill in accessing, preparing, and using information as relevant to the position. Verbalizes and demonstrates knowledge of procedures for maintaining security, confidentiality, and integrity of employee, patient, family and other medical information. Diagnoses equipment problems; fixes or seeks out someone to fix. Demonstrates skill in use of equipment relevant to position; verbalizes knowledge of appropriate safety procedures. Requirements Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred. Required Certifications: Hold national registry status at a Paramedic level. Additional training provided/workshops and staff meetings are to be attended as per policy. State license Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record. Physical Requirements: Physical activities include but not limited to will require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body: such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting up to 50 pounds, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires vision and hearing corrected within normal range. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time to store, retrieve, and deliver supplies. Possible exposure to toxic substances and medicinal preparations.
