The MA assists with clinical procedures, maintains accurate patient documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth clinic operations. This role functions within the defined scope of practice and under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers, while upholding Mercy's mission, values, and standards of care.Key ResponsibilitiesGreet, room, and prepare patients for appointments.Obtain and document vital signs and patient information.Collect and update medical and medication histories.Assist providers during examinations and procedures.Perform basic diagnostic testing, including urine dipstick testing, glucose testing, and EKGs, as deemed competent.Accurately document patient care and clinical activities in the electronic health record.Reinforce patient education as directed by providers and nurses.Maintain exam room cleanliness, organization, and supply levels.Assist with scheduling diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, and follow-up appointments.Support front office operations, including answering phones, patient check-in/check-out, fax management, and document scanning.Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.Follow all infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory requirements.Perform additional duties within the scope of the Medical Assistant role as assigned.Minimum QualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.New hires must attend Mercy's MA Clinic Academy training.SkillsStrong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.Basic computer and documentation skills.Commitment to patient-centered care and professional growth.Preferred QualificationsEducationGraduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.ExperienceOne year of experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting preferred.CertificationsBLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred.Additional SkillsExperience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.Knowledge of outpatient procedures and clinical equipment.Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.Work EnvironmentOutpatient clinical setting with frequent patient interaction.Requires standing, walking, and use of clinical equipment throughout the day.Potential exposure to infectious materials; appropriate PPE is provided.Physical RequirementsAbility to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during each shift.Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat while performing job duties.Why Mercy?At Mercy, our mission is clear: Bring to life the healing ministry of Jesus through compassionate care and exceptional service.
