Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Dialysis Medical Center

As one of the largest academic dialysis programs in the country, UVA has a unique depth of expertise that few centers can match. Our technicians provide care under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner or a registered nurse to patients receiving renal dialysis treatments at a UVA Medical Center dialysis facility. Job responsibilities include:

• Prepares and monitors equipment used for hemodialysis.
• Maintains an infection-free environment of care.
• Maintains supplies and equipment.
• Prepares dialysis stations.
• Reinforces patient education.
• Effectively communicates and demonstrates teamwork as part of the interdisciplinary team to support operational efficiency and safe, high-quality patient care.
• Provides clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during patient care.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent. Experience: Previous health care experience preferred. Licensure: Certified as a Patient Care Dialysis Technician by a State Agency or Nationally Recognized Certification Program within 18 months of hire date. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling; Repetitive motion: Building dialysis machines and wrist rotation. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $16.37 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
