Adjunct Instructor - Specialized Training and Jail Academies (Non‑Credit) Job Description Summary Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on‑going development of instructional strategies that promote student success. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery. Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence. Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation. Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives. Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs. Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful. Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation. Minimum Qualifications Adjunct Delivering Specialized Training Seminars – Education and experience relevant to the discipline and topic. Adjunct Jail Academy Instructors – Department of Justice (DOJ) certifications required for the discipline being taught (Jail Recruit Academy applicants must have completed the DOJ's Instructor Development course and possess the proper DOJ certifications for the Academy topics). Teaching or training experience is desirable. Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum. Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements Proficiency utilizing learning management system. Strong verbal communication skills. Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs. Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences. Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Work Environment Work may be performed in a classroom. Work may be performed online. Work may be performed outdoors during both daytime and nighttime hours, and in all weather conditions in and around traffic. Work is most often completed in person. Work may be completed in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually. Work may be completed in a virtual environment. Physical Requirements Mobility: The ability to move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students' desks or workstations; standing for long periods of time inside; sometimes in inclement weather. Standing and Sitting: The capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, as well as the ability to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks. Lifting and Carrying: Depending on the subject matter, instructors may need to lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props. Speech and Hearing: Clear speech and the ability to hear students' questions and interactions are essential for effective instruction. Fine Motor Skills: Instructors may need precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers. Visual Acuity: Adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment. Health and Safety: Instructors should be capable of ensuring a safe learning environment, which may involve understanding and adhering to safety protocols, responding to emergencies, and addressing any physical hazards in the instructional space. Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in person and through electronic means.
