The Facility – Gallup Indian Medical Center The Gallup Indian Medical Center is a 99-bed hospital in Gallup New Mexico, on the border of the Navajo Reservation. Clinical specialties at the GIMC include internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesia, OB Slash GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, radiology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, and urology. The workload at Gallup is one of the largest in the Indian Health Service with 250,000 outpatient encounters and 5800 inpatient admissions annually. RN PACU RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

• This Position is located in the operating room, nursing branch of the Gallup Indian Medical Center. All types of elective and emergency surgeries are performed, including general surgery, orthopedics, vascular, OB / GYN, urology, ENT, oral surgery, dental, and ophthalmology. There are over 2400 cases performed each year. Is a significant part of the emergent cases performed. Operating rooms are staffed by utilizing standby call services after hours, on holidays, and on weekends. The Pacu registered nurse provides intensive nursing care and post-anesthesia care to patients who have undergone a broad range of surgical procedures.
• All members rotate between the pre-op counseling, prep-surgery room, recovery room, and local procedures room.
• The PACU registered nurse shall perform critical professional nursing duties for patients whose condition warrants specialized care.
• In the recovery phase, observation and assessment post-anesthesia is completed with a physical assessment and examination, interviewing the patient and family members, and reviewing the patient's health history.
• Shall collaborate with the surgeon and anesthesia team on patient status and plan of care.
• Assist the anesthesia or surgeon with resuscitation and assessment, and monitor the condition of the patient while in recovery.
• The pack you are in will administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the anesthesiologist and/or anesthetist or surgeon such as medications, treatment, IV fluids, blood products, oxygen, and others.
• Records observation, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic monitoring data, or any other data relevant to the patient's condition in the recovery room.

Registered Nurse PACU – REQUIREMENTS

• Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years of nursing experience with at least two years in the medical/surgical/PACU or critical care inpatient setting.
• Must be a graduate from an accredited college or university in a Nursing program, with at least an associate degree; a BSN in Nursing is preferred.
• Certification: Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification are required.
• License/Registration: All nurses shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing within a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
