OBJECTIVE The CDL Driver position is responsible for the efficient movement of inventory and merchandise between store locations as well as customer deliveries. This role requires the operation of both CDL and DOT class vehicles. When not actively delivering orders this role must support the movement and display of inventory throughout the property in support of store team members as well as offering customers the highest level of customer service as needed. Demonstrates excellent driving skills by obeying traffic laws while accurately and efficiently delivering orders between various store and customer locations Assist team members in the loading and unloading of delivered materials consisting of loam, mulch, firewood, planters, plant materials, trees and other horticulture products Maintain records of vehicle logs and deliveries to verify contents Complete routine inspection and cleaning of utilized vehicles Assist customers in transporting purchased goods across the property Check and validate packing slips and vehicle logs when supporting the movement and replacement of inventory on the property Communicate with team members to assist customers with questions and inquiries by providing strong customer service as well as product knowledge as needed Improve and maintain presentation of inventory, including deadheading and watering of live inventory Complete all other tasks as assigned by management including basic maintenance and housekeeping of the property COMPETENCIES Attention to Detail Communication Well Organized Ability / Initiative to Learn Reliable PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid CDL Driver's License, DOT medical card and a clean driving record for the past seven years. Must have no record of any DUIs. Previous experience driving a CDL and DOT class vehicle required. Experience in the retail, horticultural, or gardening fields is preferred but not required. WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in an active retail store environment. This job may be either indoors or outdoors or both. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK Flexible hours. Days and hours of work vary by schedule and season. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
