General Cleaner

The General Cleaner performs evening custodial services at assigned Pellissippi State Community College facilities to maintain clean, sanitary, safe, secure, and presentable learning environments. The position follows assigned routes, required cleaning frequencies, written procedures, campus security requirements, and supervisor or Institution direction while working in classrooms, laboratories, restrooms, offices, common areas, and other assigned spaces.

Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm (subject to change)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Perform assigned cleaning according to the cleaning schedule, written procedures, work route, supervisor direction, and campus requirements.
• Clean common areas, entrances, lobbies, corridors, hallways, lounges, conference rooms, vending areas, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, office areas, restrooms, and other assigned spaces at the required frequency.
• Sweep, damp mop, vacuum, spot clean spills and stains, remove gum or food residue, clean entrance glass and interior glass, dust surfaces, clean handrails, water fountains, elevators, and other high-touch surfaces.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, including floors, sinks, faucets, counters, toilets, handles, rails, stalls, fixtures, walls, mirrors, dispensers, vents, and assigned locker-room areas.
• Empty trash, replace liners, remove waste from buildings daily, transport it to designated dumpsters.
• Handle only material placed in a trash receptacle, clearly identified as trash, or designated for recycling; do not disturb papers, boxes, or personal materials.
• Restock Institution-provided paper products and contractor-provided soap, air fresheners, urinal screens, and other assigned supplies.
• Move furniture only as required for cleaning, never stack chairs or trash cans on desks, tables, or window sills, and return all furniture, trash cans, and equipment to the original position.
• Maintain custodial closets, carts, supplies, tools, and equipment in a clean, neat, orderly, and secure condition.
• Follow all company and campus safety, security, conduct, and reporting expectations while performing assigned work.
• Use assigned keys, access credentials, equipment, and campus property responsibly and in accordance with training and site procedures.
• Maintain professional conduct while on campus and interact appropriately with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and client representatives.
• Promptly report injuries, unsafe conditions, damage, security concerns, supply shortages, equipment issues, service deficiencies, and incomplete work to the supervisor.
• Use only approved and properly labeled cleaning products; follow Safety Data Sheets, PPE requirements, equipment instructions, and applicable company and campus procedures.

Seasonal, Event, and Special Assignments

• Check classrooms and laboratories during semester breaks and clean as needed; participate in assigned deep cleaning before the next academic term.
• Perform assigned semester-break and summer cleaning, including desk and table cleaning, high dusting, trash-can cleaning, cove-base cleaning, wall spot cleaning, and restroom deep cleaning.
• Support campus and community events, weekend activities, and other special cleaning assignments as scheduled.
• Perform construction cleanup or other short-term custodial assistance when assigned and trained.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Must be able to communicate in the English language and follow directions from Institution staff and Premiere supervisors.
• Ability to read and follow assigned routes, written procedures, safety information, labels, schedules, checklists, and site-specific instructions.
• Dependability, punctuality, attention to detail, and ability to complete assigned work within the scheduled shift.
• Professional, courteous communication with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and client representatives.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively, respond to changing priorities, and promptly report service, safety, security, equipment, and facility concerns.
• Ability to use cleaning tools, chemicals, supplies, and commercial-grade equipment safely and according to training and manufacturer instructions.
