Public Safety OfficerMount Mercy University is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Public Safety Officer to join our Public Safety team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Public Safety Officers work a non-standard schedule and assist in providing 24/7 campus safety coverage. This position would cover hours from 4 PM to Midnight, Saturday through Wednesday. The starting pay is $16.50 an hour.The ideal candidate is a collaborative professional who demonstrates sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to serving a diverse university community.Key ResponsibilitiesPatrol campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds to help ensure the safety and security of people and property.Enforce campus security and parking policies, including building access and key control procedures.Respond to emergencies, provide assistance to injured individuals, and coordinate with local emergency responders when necessary.Conduct investigations, complete incident reports, and maintain security records.Monitor security and life-safety systems, including fire, intrusion, and access control systems.Perform routine inspections of campus safety equipment and security measures.Provide security escorts, support campus events, and collaborate with departments on safety initiatives and emergency preparedness.Participate in safety training, emergency drills, and other professional development activities.Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a visible, approachable presence on campus.QualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent.Valid driver's license.First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours as needed.PreferredAssociate degree.Previous experience in campus safety, security, law enforcement, military service, emergency response, or related field.Desired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCommitment to the mission and values of a faith-based university.Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.Ability to exercise sound judgment, de-escalate conflicts, and respond effectively in emergencies.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.Proficiency with technology and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.Generous paid time off and holidays.Tuition Remission.Professional development opportunities.Supportive and collaborative work environment.Access to campus amenities, cultural events, and recreational facilities.St. Ambrose University and its affiliate campuses, including Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are an inclusive, Catholic, and diocesan community of learners.
