Mechanical Engineer, Lead

Summary Mechanical Engineer, Lead applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines and other mechanically-functioning equipment. Leads and supports the mechanical design, testing, and production of electrical machines and the design of electronics packaging for high‑altitude aerospace applications. Oversees mid‑size development projects outsourced to subcontractors. Position Responsibilities Lead or support thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid flow analysis efforts for electronics equipment. Lead testing and data collection in laboratory and field settings. Model mechanical devices and select proper materials. Perform stress, fatigue, and thermal analysis and select bonding materials. Develop mechanical drawings with dimensional tolerances. Create assembly instructions and test procedures. Develop test plans and verify designs. Handle complex issues requiring in‑depth analysis of variable factors. Execute team assignments, coordinate other personnel when acting as team lead. Perform additional duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications (Required) 8–12 years of mechanical engineering experience, including 5 years in production of rotating electrical machines, electronics packaging, or mechanical device solutions for industrial or aerospace applications. Experience developing requirements specifications for mechanical subsystems using MIL‑STD‑961D or equivalent standards. Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling. Proficiency with ANSYS for structural and fatigue analysis. Proficiency with ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis. Extensive experience designing high‑performance electrical machines and mechanical devices. Extensive experience in thermal management tradeoffs, material properties, and bonding techniques for extreme environments. Experience with manufacturing methodologies for electrical machines. Experience maintaining product document trees and bills of materials (BOM). Experience with test and measurement techniques such as torque transducer calibration and instrumentation. Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies MS degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Senior membership or higher in an international engineering society (e.g., ASME) preferred. Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑810 or DO‑160. Full understanding of engineering principles and ability to work independently. Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Strong initiative, drive to accomplish goals, and commitment to improvement. Effective problem‑solving, analytical, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Team‑player oriented, prioritizing collective success over personal interests. Physical Demands Work in office and production environments continuously. Sit and stand for long periods; use hands and fingers to operate computer and phone keyboards frequently. Clearance Level No clearance. Salary Range $111,500 - $158,025 ITAR Requirement Role requires access to information subject to ITAR/EAR compliance.
