PositionSummary TheEstimatorisresponsibleforprovidingaccurate,timelyandcomprehensivebidsforprivateandpublic-sectorimprovementprojects.Specifically,therolewillberesponsibleforidentifyingbidopportunities,preparingcompetitivebiddocumentsanddevelopingwinningproposals.Inaddition,theEstimatorwillcontributetothesuccessandprofitabilityofprojectsbyprovidingongoingassistanceduringtheconstructionphase,includingestimateinterpretation,problemresolution,activeinvolvementinthechangeorderprocessandassistanceinoverallaccountmanagement.BecognitiveofyourinfluenceasapositiverolemodeltotheDepartment’slessexperiencedstaffandmentorwhenpossible. Thisroleisidealforsomeonewhothrivesinafast-paced,collaborativeenvironment,bringsstrongattentiontodetail,andispassionateaboutshapingcommunitiesthroughexceptionalcivilconstruction. EssentialFunctions Thoroughlyevaluatebiddocuments(plans,specifications,soilsreportandrelateddocuments),determiningscopeandbreadthofworktobebothself-performedandsubcontracted.Evaluatechangesinbiddocumentsasnecessarywithrespecttotheimplicationstoscope,costandtheriskprofileofthepursuit. Coordinate,overseeandevaluatethequantitytake-offforpursuits,highlightingimportantdetailssuchasaccess,phasing,productionconstraints,magnitudesofscope,etc. Attendpre-bidmeetingsandsitevisitstoevaluateprojectconstraintsandtheirimplicationstothedevelopmentofaprofitablecostestimateforthepursuit. Identifyandcontacttherequiredsubcontractors,suppliersandserviceproviders,andrequestscopeclarificationsandquotes,ensuringsufficientcoveragewhilemitigatingallknownandpotentialscopegaps. Utilizehistoricalcostandproductiondatatodeveloptimelyandaccurateestimates.Identify,analyze,categorize/prioritize,evaluate,communicateandmitigatetherisksassociatedwiththepursuit. Tabulatetheestimatedcostanddurationforeachactivitybasedontherequirementsforlabor,equipment,materialsandsubcontractorsofeachactivityensuringthepursuitcanbecarriedoutprofitably. Completetheestimate,produceascheduleandotherexecutivelevelsummarydocuments,allowingenoughtimepriortosubmissionofthebid,foradetailedpeer/managementreviewofthepursuit.Ensureallassociatedactionitemshavebeenaddressedpriortofinalizingandsubmittingthebid. Oncebidhasbeensubmitted,compileandorganizeallbid-relateddocumentsandpricingbackupinanorderlyfashion,foreitherarchivingorforhandofftoprojectteam,ifsuccessful. Therightcandidatebringsastrongunderstandingoftheconstructionindustryandusesthatknowledgetomakesmartdecisionsthatsupportourgoals.Theycommunicateclearlyandadapttheirstyletodifferentaudienceswhilebuildingstrong,trust-basedrelationshipswithclientsandteammembers.They’redetail-orientedandabletostayfocusedandproductive,evenwhenthingsareuncertainorfast-paced.Theycanhandlecomplexinformation,solveproblemseffectively,andkeepprojectsmovingforward.Mostimportantly,theythinkahead,planstrategically,andstaycalmunderpressurealwaysworkingtowardbothshort-termsuccessandlong-termgrowth.
